My favorite of Jodorowski's is Santa Sangre. I cry every time I watch it when the two children are separated.

He and Capra are my favorites.

They're not the best if you have to list 25 of 'em. One of them has to be your ultimo hombre. Hmmmm, kinda hard to argue with Hitchcock, but i will say.........STANLEY KUBRICK.

Spielberg is a mediocre director who gets great projects. George Lucas made him, and he's lived off of it ever since.

I'm really digging Rob Zombie. I love how he can do it all. Music, art, and direct.

you people bashing spielberg are just silly....lucas had nothing to do with with a lot of his movies.....not to mention that if you really pay attention to the detail and filmwork in the movie jaws you'll realize that it was much more than just a summer blockbuster put asses in the seats type of movie...plus add to the fact that he was only 26 i think when he made that movie..

How can anyone say anything other than Alfred Hitchcock?

He is the definitive winner on the simple basis that he accelerated the maturity level of the industry exponentially. If it wasn't for him, we'd still be watching films like those in the 50's with bad acting, bad effects, and even worse plots. He was responsible for almost EVERY genre starting to take itself seriously.

I still haven't watched Tusk, but Fando y Lis is so amazing. It's hard to put any of the ones in your top 4 above or below each other.

Alfred Hitchcock has to be the answer. Sure a couple of directors have made better individual movies than Hitchcock but his body of work is unparalleled. He created entire new genres on his own.

Great picks! you just need to add Buñuel and Fellini to that list (and perhaps Cocteau) in order to have the BEST surrealist directors ever (albeit Kubrick moved freely between different styles)

Of course IMO the best director ever is don Luis Buñuel
