What Director?

Question: What director made you aware of direction? Capra, Coppola, Lucas? Who and why...?

I actually didn't start becoming an avid film watcher until 3 or 4 years ago. Without a doubt though the first Director that made me aware of directing was Alfonso Cuaron for his work on Children of Men. His single shot sequences were absolutely mind blowing and ultimately made an impression on me. Danny Boyle is probably the Director that's made the biggest impression on me so far. After the year 2000, he's been nearly perfect. 28 Days Later, Millions, Sunshine, and Slumdog Millionaire are all among my favorite films.

Steven Spielberg.. just because he is a household name. Usually when something big comes out, we know it's big because it's from the guy who did Jurassic Park or whatever.

It'd probably be Spielberg for me too, only because I'd seen so many of his movies, before really getting into older stuff.

I'm really looking forward to Lincoln, which he'll be directing. I think it comes out in 2011, starring Liam Neeson as Honest Abe, and is somewhat based on Team of Rivals (a great book...even before it was mentioned about 1.2 million times in the last few weeks, with Obama apparently trying to imitate Lincoln).
