If you have a USB controller connected, that takes priority and in this case controller slot 1.

Does this apply to guitar dongles? my controller stays on #1 with my guitar hooked up. and i was like "how can they both be assigned to the first slot?" confusing

I also noticed that my controller does not turn on the PS3.
Glad to see it isn't just me.

It's always a little scary when things like this slip through...

im gonna disagree with that. i usually have my 2 sixaxis plugged in and turn my ps3 on with the DS3 and it is set to slot 1

If you re-assign one of your controllers to slot 1, every time you turn that controller on it will keep slot 1, until you power off your PS3 and it re-assigns all connected controllers, USB first.

Even though they are attached to the PS3 with USB cables, they are not using that USB connection to communicate with the PS3.

I've only had the "controller not able to power on the console" problem if my PS3 losers power unexpectedly.

my ps button still doesnt turn on my ps3 on standby...
