The Blu-ray versions out in Japan are the only ones Bandai Visual did with no english subs

I just looked, Neil Nadelman did the earlier subtitles that included the "Feddies" stuff. If I remember correctly that was a request by Bandai brass, as Neil usually is pretty careful about that sort of thing

Sure the subtitles are wrong sometimes, but I can figure out enough Japanese to tell how wrong they are usually and it doesn't bother me. Someday i hope to turn them off and keep them off, and understand all the Japanese perfectly... someday.
Sometimes I listen to the japanese and prefer that, and sometimes I do not, when something is something ive heard a long time ago and watched frequently I sorta put the voice to the character and once that is so I accept that voice as that character.

What I usually can not stand is when what im hearing and the subs do not match it hurts my head.. and I just turn the subs off. Minor discrepancies are okay just well sometimes its just too much where there right field exiting the ball park.

Just remeber its Char-tastic.

Char/F91/Escaflowne/Bebop did not include subs at the request of the US licensor (Bandai Entertainment and Sony)
I do not connect how simultaneous releases would stop piracy.. it may slow down because there would be less reason for those people to do so...

As long as there are sites that can sub and release the entire series for for free there will be piracy.

In fact its probably already happened to 00...

You don't remember correctly. He's defended them before in arguments on usenet and elsewhere. He said he got one of them from some random Japanese publication, as if it somehow validated its use for nearly every time a Zeon soldier says "the Federation" in Japanese and vice versa...

Slow it down yes. The big thing is that there isn't a month of rips minimum flying around before people have the legit product in-hand

I agree it's both incorrect and annoying, and if he was defending it on UseNet then it was the result of too large a collection of magazines and some offhand comment someone made that he took as gospel. He's gone to great lengths before (like with Captain Tylor) to explain why he changed certain things that didn't translate and they made sense. They did the same thing with "Heero" in Gundam Wing. On the reverse Shin Kurokawa had to use "Focker" in Macross (the Engrish mispellng) because Harmony Gold wanted him to seperate it from Robotech as much as possible.

I don't remember his Tylor subs much and I don't think I ever read the liner notes, but I remember someone paraphrasing his explanation for one of the things he changed being "because this way it references a song I like" or something like that.

But most likely they will be ripped off the tele and then what?

Thats what I am personally thinking but maybe im overlooking something, ill have to look around a bit and ask questions to people I would not normally talk to.

Talk to you later WickyWoo.

I'll have to dig out the notes. The one I'm specifically remembering was a joke that made no sense unless you knew a car jingle or something

You aren't going to stop that

The biggest problem is that they're taking all these measures a decade too late

Feature film and OVA releases can still be protected this way, as well as extended cuts which are going to be more common in the future for Tv stuff

Okay as long as you recognize it, I wonder how many do not... seriously if they shut down specific sites and keep closing them down rapidly and you can probably destroy the torrent network..

I think it would be possible, you would need to attack both the public sites and the private ones, but damn would you need some cooperation and I do not think that will ever happen...

But regardless we will support it when it comes out right

I think the death of Supernova proved that you really can't. It's too easy to set one up and they're far too profitable (you wouldn't believe what The Pirate Bay pulls in, but given their public flaunting and likely organized crime ties, it's only a matter of time before they're going to jail for a very long time)

They'll just keep coming

The real goal in this case is to shut down fansubbing of new titles completely. The problem is that a very small network of people sharing a few thousand copies at most on degrading VHS tapes turned into half a million downloads a week of Naruto alone, and an entire generation that has never had to pay for their anime

It's very hard to undo that culture of entitlement. Frankly I believe we're going to lose at least one major US distributor in the next 12 months, so the goal is going to be to find ways to make purchases attractive enough to re-invigorate buying to the point a stable market can be achieved

Make no mistake, the US anime DVD market is crashing, and it's not because of pricing. It's because they can't sell it much lower than they are, and people aren't buying it until it's in the dump bin,

Of course but you cant actually calculate how many of those people would have paid for it...

When I have money I buy anime, in fact during the tax times I just bought the full box set of star ocean ex.. (I love that anime) but I find I do not always have money for anime and that kinda makes me sad.

None the less I really wish they could get the anime network going on our local cable companies.. Ive asked and the most they will do is free on demand with a couple of things...

My current anime purchasing plans are of course obvious
*Robotech (all)
*Gundam Zeta Anime Legends vol 2
*Gundam 0079 (all) These suckers are hard to find
*Gundam Wing (all)
*Gundam Seed (all)
*Gundam Seed Destiny (all)
*Gundam 0083 (all)
*Gundam ZZ (all and only if it comes out one of these decades another personal favorite regardless what others say)
*Gundam G (all But im not in a direct need for this series)
*Gundam F91 (Ive never seen this :-)
*Victory Gundam (Another I have yet to see)
*Turn a Gundam (When and if it makes it stateside)
*MS IGLOO (all and only if it actually makes it here which I doubt)
*Gundam Evolve (I don't actually think this will get released in the states ever maybe they will make a compilations disc with them all on it when there finished which I do not know if they are are are not)
*G Savior (which Will probably never make it to the states ever...)
*Gundam 00 (hopefully on blu )

That should probably be what I can handle within 10 or so years... um
did I miss anything?

I have some sporateous dvds of different gundam series...

Because no one bought them. They're dub-only (required by Sunrise to prevent reverse importation because they didn't put it on DVD until 3-4 years later in Japan). The people who watch old anime don't want it dubbed

Just get the movies box, it's cheaper, no awful dubbing and you skip the endless Zaku of the week.

It's already available on DVD here from Bandai Visual
G Savior has been out for years, but I really don't think you want it.....

The linear anime network is dying, I don't expect it to be around much longer

I already have some of these I want to finish the collection. I watched my first episodes in dub...

I grew up with this dub work it does not bother me, in particular with gundam I prefer the voices I know... Ive seen all episodes including the lost episode, I do not to own them but ive seen them.. Theres also a personal matter but im not ready to discuss it in full but me and a buddy are planning on a UT mod and thats all im going to say till were done.

It's already available on DVD here from Bandai Visual
G Savior has been out for years, but I really don't think you want it.....

The creator of gundam had its launch in America canceled so as far as the information I collected pointed to it being forever trapped in japan, personally me and a buddy are interested to watch this we've seen some clips and well hehe we have a great love for all things gundam.

The linear anime network is dying, I don't expect it to be around much longer

http://www.theanimenetwork.com/ is the one im talking about we already have some free on demand with them, I would be very happy to get that in my area other then free on demand featurettes...
My responses are in red, you are not dealing with a normal rational person you are dealing with a person who is in such deep love of gundam that he can stomach to watch the sd gundam wacky races and of course some of the newer sd gundam which I try to limit in hopes of not losing my sanity..

Well thank you for your time and responses ill further think about them and try to find ways to get the original eventually...

See ya later WickyWoo

Well, here you go, $5

http://www.amazon.com/G-Saviour-Movi...2597822&sr=8-1

Tomino didn't cancel it. It was a backdoor TV movie pilot for a saturday afternoon syndication block. The market for those was dying at the time, and not enough people were interested in it for it to get a pickup

Seriously my friend paid $60 for the Japanese import the week it came out in Japan

The only noteable thing about it is the cameo by apophis from Stargate SG-1 as a wounded Federation soldier

i have the first Appleseed, limited collectors edition. Geneon. it's in a metal box that looks really cool. it appears to have been done in some type of 3D animation. would look good on BD.

ah someone is trying to bring this thread back on topic

Geneon is a really cool company they did a good job brining star ocean ex over to the states, so far I have great respect for them.

Sadly not many things I usually buy are handled by them but I have a good positive view of the company.

Ive been trying to find the new appleseed out on blu but its rare some stores do not even report of it shipping yet, Blockbuster of course has it but its usually rented out...

I think Geneon died the way they did because of their pricing and lack of content on their discs with just trailers. approximately $150 for a box set and no matter where you go its like $24.99 or $29.99 per volume and because of that they never finished the Hellsing OVA, Karin, When They Cry, Rosen Maiden, and a few other series
