Default Anime Blu-ray News

A few news items we posted about today at AnimeOnDVD.com

FUNimation will be releasing the Robotech: Shadow Chronicles movie (done in HD originally) on 9/2 and will include more new extras on it.

Bandai Entertainment will release Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence on Blu-ray and DVD. The film was previously released by Dreamworks and never got a dub in the US, but was dubbed for UK release. A new dub is being commissioned that will have it done by the same folks who worked on the TV series. No date was given and this is the first Blu-ray release from Bandai Entertainment.

Robotech: The Shadow CHronicles & Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence....both are huge disappointments (especially Robotech:TSC). I hope they have more of library selection lined up.

GitS 2, yay!
I love being able to replace my DVDs. I have a feeling it will take 20 years (if ever) to be all Blu at this rate though...

I'll rent them both as I have never seen either, and arent generally the 'type' i like.

At any rate, the more Bluray news we get, the more hopeful I am they start pushing it hard.

I have actually been disappointed by Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence
-BUT-

Visually, it is a stunning experience, perhaps the most incredibly gorgeous piece of animation seen in recent history (colors and details specifically).

Even though I thought it was a big let down compared to the first in terms of story and dialogues, I think -if done right- it could be an awesome visual experience in HD...

Haven't seen Shadow Chronicles yet, but .. well, my hopes were not really up to start with, given that it's a bastard child of Macross, and not even done by Japanese animators/studio this time around
This being said, I have fond memories of Robotech, so I'm curious.

Oh and this wasnt posted but Gurren Lagann is going to be coming out to Blu-Ray from Bandai in America and not ADV Films which made the dubbing but never released it when they were supposed to. But thats going to be awhile before that comes out which is probably next year when Bandai includes an English dub even though the dvds with no English dub are coming out this Fall to dvd in 3 dvds and just Japanese only with subtitles

Finally! GitS: Innocense of blu-ray in the US. This movie is in my top 10 all-time favorites, but I could never rationalize forking over $70+ for the import. Now I just need them to release the original GitS as well. Hmm... Well, I could go for the SAC series as well...

Any release of the original will undoubtedly be tied to the live action movie from DreamWorks
