I use a 120" wide scope screen sitting around 11' from the screen and it is not too big. I could very easily see going to a bigger screen. It's a very individual thing, but the immersion of a big screen is what makes the theater experience different, as opposed to just sitting in front of a TV.

Try it sometime. I have yet to have someone sit in the front row of my theater and tell me it's too big. Most of the time, it's more a look of "wow, I didn't think a picture that big could look that clear".

In regards to the difference in electrical consumption, I would guess that most projectors don't use too much more electricity than your average flat panel. I haven't noticed any difference in my electric bill after switching from a rear projection TV to a front projector.

If you play video games, especially shooters i wouldn't go above a 52'....

If it's just for t.v./movies i'd go up to 60-65, but you need to at least be
at 42' to get any real benefit out of your blu rays

i guess the same could be said for a number of things. why have a faster car, why wear designer clothes, or why spend more on blu-rays when you can get dvds. it all boils down to what you think is more important and if you are able to buy these things without puting yourself in a financial bind. as for me, the 60 inch kuro i have and 50 inch panny plasma make tv time much more enjoyable.

My Sony KDS-60A3000 sxrd set uses approx. 280 watts in power save mode. I haven't noticed my electric bills any higher than with my old 36"crt. In my opinion there is no such thing as too big, unless you physically cannot carry it into the room.

generally if it doesn't actually fit within the walls of your house, or you need a delivery truck so big it doesn't fit on a suburban street, you should start looking at TVs a little smaller

No such thing as "too big"!.
As I say that, I just sold my 65" Mitsu and am getting a 73" on Sunday. "I am as gitty as a little girl"

Default Does size matter?

Perhaps, but in response to the question, not as much as the technology.
A 52" LCD probably actually uses less power than a 27" CRT. While a 50" Plasma would probably use twice as much power as the 27".

Ahh, now it starts to make sense to me. I don't want a curved set because most stuff is made to be viewed on a flat surface. Now, if I had a projection system and could watch 2001: ASO near original theater panoramic presentation, THEN I would be impressed.

Yeah.... Can't say I've viewed the picture on the screen, just on a wall.... but it looks good just sitting there

I guess If I had to stand up.... walk about 50 feet to see what is going on in the rest of the picture, then my t.v. would be too big..... but until then, I say BLOW IT UP!!!!! I'd love a 21' screen or so..... but older homes aren't known for their "open" floor plans Besides... convincing the wife I need an $80k Projector, and lens..... would be interesting to say the least!

The "return" you are refering to is subjective. If you put so much less "value" in that "return", then for you, yes, why have such a large set?

It is like asking a dog which color is brighter, yellow or black. (mind you, dogs are color blind)

Quote: "Some of you must have HDTV's in excess of 50 to 60 inches. While that is a great size for home theater and watching movies, do you really want to burn 400 to 500 watts of power just to watch the evening news?"

I have 3 computers that run at 500 watts all day long. Electric bill between $129-$160 a month. Not that big of a deal. Who watches TV anyways? LOL.

Just like great picture quality, you will adjust to a big TV quickly. We got used to our Sony 70" xbr2 after a short amount of time. However, once you get used to it, it would be difficult to be satisfied with a smaller screen. 60" screens look ho-hum, and 52" would be unacceptable. There is no substitute to watching movies and sports on a big screen. Power consumption is not that big of an issue - our xbr uses about 300 watts, and it was mentioned in another post that the upcoming 73" Mitsu laser dlp will probably use even less.

never get to big unless the room is small, as big as it can be helicoptered through my roof im good with. If imaz theathers can get as big as they do and still look good, im guessing we can get something similar if our rooms are big enuff and are pockets are large enuff to.
