Precisely. If they hack it I don't feel concerned as it is my choice that no hack comes to My PSP so if others are happy with homebrew stuff I have no right to rain on their parade.

As for the better LCD, how exactly is it better ? higher definition ? Longer battery time between charges ? something else ?

It's the same thing repackage, IMO. And I know this is beating a dead horse but I won't be getting a new one until they add the second thumbstick. And when it does, it better be backwards compatible with already released games.

Imagine that, you'll play SOCOM, Syphon Filter, Brothers In Arms, Etc. all over again and with a different feel. I imagine they would achieve backwards compatibility by means of firmware, right? I don't know.

I read somewhere that with the strategy they're following they will release a total re-design in 2010. Here's to hoping.

Ill be getting this but if they come out with another upgrade I WONT be getting it. Its not right that they keep doing this to us. With two upgrades they should offer some kind of a trade in system where you can trade your psp for the newer and pay the difference or something. If they upgrade after this again they can go screw. Im not changing until the next generation of psp comes out.

You know I was a little bummed to hear this because I just bought one, but honestly I haven't noticed any "ghosting" on the PSP 2000 screen.

The only games I've played (at length) are Hot Shots Golf and Daxter... however I did play the Wipeout demo and I assume ghosting would be apparent there. Didn't notice it.

So what is the deal? Did the PSP 2000 make an improvement in this area of the original as well?

Higher contrast ratio. you can never have enough contrast. Although it would have been sweet if this PSP had an OLED screen

IGN had a PSP-1000 and 2000 comparison and there were some slight improvements with the 2000 screen. Never found the comparison since.

http://www.pspfanboy.com/2008/08/21/...twice-as-fast/

Twice the response time (no more ghosting). I've noticed ghosting during UMD movies...but not during gaming.

Higher contrast (5 times more), twice color gamut

I recently was playing Crisis Core in the car...couldn't see my damn screen because of glare, so depending on how much I could get for my current PSP-2000...there's about a 25% chance that I'll get the new one...still pissed about no update on wifi

This is what I was thinking myself. I was hoping it would have a second anaolg nub for playing certain games. Till then I shall stick with the one I got when they first came out.

I haven't seen any photos showing how much better the new screen is. It looks just the same as the 2000 series. PSP games look pretty good for the hardware. I might skip on this one, unless the screen makes everything looks a million times better.

I'll wait on photos or something from the psp section of the IGN website.

There's many changes to the casing actually. 3000 compared to 2000:
  • The edges are more curved (may be more comfortable)
  • The area in the middle of the face buttons and dpad is more concave
  • Speaker holes are a little smaller/sharper edges
  • Extra microphone hole
  • Sony logo has flipped sides
  • 'PS' PlayStation family logo has gone from the top corner to replace the 'HOME' button label of previous models, bringing button labeling in-line with the PLAYSTATION 3
  • All buttons under the screen are now lozenge-shaped
  • Thinner silver ring on back of UMD drive door with different finish
And there may be even more subtle differences.

Are you sure about this -- 3000 vs 2000, not 3000 vs 1001??? I.e., they changed the body shape again??
