Default Universal f¤*%# up again !

Got it yesterday and it won't play on my Region A PS3.
Plays fine om my pc drive.
On the PS3 i only get a black screen,no menues nothing.
No warning comes up on the PS3 screen (like wrong region etc.)
This is the second Universal title i have big problems with. The other was Keane Live which don't play on the PS3 but plays very nice on my pc drive. Both are marked with "Playstation 3 Compatible",shame.
Gonna test this on a third SA player later and see.
Not marked with a region.

Anybody got a mailadress to Universal Music in Uk to send me on Pm ?

If anyone finds that address, could you pm it to me too. I had literally the exact same situation happen as Skynet did. If contacting Sony, they just blame Universal. And as far as contacting Universal, I haven't been able to find the correct contact.

The BDInfo scan for the Australian disc, likely identical to the BD sold in the UK:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...postcount=1384

Both features are in 1080i / 50 Hz video. The Blu-ray region coding site has the UK BD as being region B-locked, but the veracity of that information is in question. Many Region A importers, likely Americans, would be unlikely to play this on their BD machines because of the video refresh rate, even if it is region-free. That is how it could be reported as region-locked when it really isn't.

The report above in the thread that a Region A PS3 played this disc in Australia gives me hope, but then again the only Region A PS3 that could handle the video is a unit from Hong Kong. Can anyone that knows the ins and outs of region coding confirm the region status of this disc? I have a Region A machine that handles 1080i/50 Hz video, but is not region-free. Hence my dilemma...

This site claims the Australian BD is region-free:

I have the disc and can confirm it's not region locked. (the Australian, UK, and "US import" releases are all the same disc) You just need a 50hz player Region A or B doesn't matter, and you're set.

You beat me to it. I just received the U.K. Blu-ray literally yesterday, and it is completely region-free as you state. You must have a player capable of playing 1080i / 50 Hz material, as both the documentary and concert are presented at that refresh rate. Most standalone American players can not handle that type of video aside from a few exceptions and a BD-Rom computer drive. Luckily, I have one of those exceptions, an American LG BD370. It easily converts the frame rate to a suitable one for my American display.

I also did not realize how nice the deluxe slipcover was until I handled it. I am not one of those people with a slipcover fetish, but this is the nicest, thickest slipcover since the original Lost: Season Three set.

Hopefully one of these years Sony will add 50hz support for the ps3 in an update. Then I can finally watch this disc in my home theater instead of on my computer.

Sony has basically come out and said they will not do this in an update, for fear Europeans would import U.S. Playstations cheaper than the European models. It is form of price-control between territories. There is one exception in the world as far as I know, the Region A Hong Kong PS3, which does play PAL and 1080i/50 Hz video like the European models. But importing that is very pricey.

Does anyone know the frame rate of the original footage? Was this filmed in 24, 25 or 30 fps?

How does the concert sound? Messy like their previous live releases or is it at all listenable?

I believe the documentary was shot on 16mm film at 24fps but can't say definitively. The concert might have been filmed at 1080i/50 Hz.

Sound quality is pretty good, I am not sure about your criticism of their live releases being messy. The performance on the Blu-ray is a better concert for my money than the last-ever Oasis concert that was included with Time Flies.

Why? It's Sony that's doing the wrong thing by not supporting the Blu-ray specs or the original fps of the content. It's Universal who is doing the right thing by releasing it correctly at it's correct fps. Sony is to blame.
