I'd prefer the first to be more about Billy and the orphanage the whole origin/backstory yarn

I also hope they don't give his family powers either
Why would it turn out to be a kid's flick?

Since last year, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has teased having a role in an upcoming DC Comics movie, but it wasn't until earlier this year that he revealed it would be either Shazam, aka Captain Marvel, or the superhero's nemesis, the anti-hero Black Adam. Well, the wrestler-turned-actor has now taken to Twitter to finally announce it's the latter character which he will be playing on the big-screen. "'Kneel at his feet or get crushed by his boot,'" Johnson tweeted before confirming, "My honor to become.. #BlackAdam #TheAntiHero #DCComics." The tweet was accompanied by a photo of the supervillain character taking on his adversary. Meanwhile, according to Variety, the big-screen Shazam adaptation will be written by Jack the Giant Slayer screenwriter Darren Lemke. And given that Lemke was brought on board to start the scripting process very recently, there currently is no production date scheduled. However, following Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, Warner Bros. has nine untitled DC movies slotted up through 2020. What do you think?

The Shazam project will be produced by New Line, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. proper, and when New Line president Toby Emmerich gets on the phone to EW, he makes it clear that the film will be a different kind of superhero movie. “It feels to me like Shazam will have a tone unto itself,” he explains. “It’s a DC comic, but it’s not a Justice League character, and it’s not a Marvel comic. The tone and the feeling of the movie will be different from the other range of comic book movies.”

The usual superhero-movie cone of silence prevents Emmerich from addressing any of the plot elements of Shazam directly. But when asked where the movie would fall on the superhero-movie spectrum (from dark and gritty to light and peppy), Emmerich does allow that the movie “will have a sense of fun and a sense of humor. But the stakes have to be real.”

I thought Dwayne Johnson would've made a better Shazam than Black Adam. He's got that right combination of good guy/goofy vibe. I'm not sure I've ever seen him play a villain outside of the Scorpion King, which was rather lousy, but the character was a walking train-wreck of CGI to begin with.

Also what are the odds they actually refer to this character as Captain Marvel? I'd say it's rather low considering who their competition is and the fact the competition has their own Captain Marvel character.

Even though he hasn't played many villains in feature films, he was at his best as a heel in his WWE days, so this could work great for him.

While I dont like the actor myself, I think that Kellan Lutz could be Captain Marvel. Captain Marvel is a boy with a man's body - that's how I perceive Lutz whenever I see this guy. Furthermore, it would be funny to see the two Hercules battle each other.

The way the movie will be written will play an integral part. They should find a way to balance 3 characters, Billy Batson, Shazam and Black Adam. Also, casting will be tricky since Billy and Shazam should both connect to the audience. Hoping for the best on this one.

Well the fact that Dwayne indicated he was either Shazam or Black Adam must mean the actor chosen for Shazam must be someone good. Or at least it better. Kellen Lutz is not that person.

My choice is Joe Mangianello as Shazam. Maybe Kodi Mcphee-Smith as Billy Batson.

Mangianello needs a superhero role but I dont see him as Shazam - He would be good for Lobo but I would still want to see Mangianello in a more important role, maybe as Namor.

Nah The Rock is too dark to play Shazam, he is much better as Black Adam.

I doubt Marvel would allow Karen Gillan to be Shayera Hol but it would definitely work for me.

I think the Rock was born to play Black Adam, it's a very smart choice. It also allows WB to pick an unknown actor to play Captain Marvel (who will almost certainly be called Shazam), getting someone physically very close to his artistic image.

I would love a costume closer to this Alex Ross art than the New 52 costume:

because of the orphans involved (and the tiger) if they decide to go that route, the story involving magic, Warner Bros., and The Rocks affinity for kids movies

Who thinks Thor and Shazam aka Captain Marvel are similar heroes? they did fought in Marvel vs DC in the 90s. Are both based on myths and legends and both are powerful and both can change with the power of lightning?

Thor is Marvel's version of Shazam aka Captain Marvel

I know exactly why they're doing it, but I'm not at all happy they have to call Captain Marvel "Shazam."
