I was so tempted to upgrade, especially since Black Christmas is my favorite slasher movie of all time, but I passed. I've got the DVD, and I'm trying to stop re-buying movies I already own. I've wasted too much money on this stuff.

[Show spoiler]I know that a movie like this is not one to put you in the Christmas spirit, but I was disappointed in just how little Christmas was a part of it. Will not become a part of my Christmas tradition.
Yeah if you want gimmicky, go for the remake. The remake isn't very good IMO but it's a guilty pleasure of mine.

A shame this comes with low bit lossy audio. The old laserdisc had a fairly decent PCM track.

Cheers.
go with the german release, Im pretty sure that has superior quality and more bonus content. The US release is fairly murky and the features aren't too deep.

The Region A release does have the original mono audio, if I'm not mistaken. The German release only has a new 5.1 mix.

Still uncertain whether to get this due to iffy reviews. I mean, I want to, since it's pretty much my favourite horror film ever, but is it enough of an improvement over the DVD to be worth importing?

Isn't this year the films 40th Anniversary maybe the US and or Canada might reissue the film remastered possibly? Id hold off just in case, I don't plan on watching it again until XMas time.

The mono track is a must. Sounds so much better than the DD 5.1 track.

I wish there was a release with English subtitles.
it's a bit difficult for me at times to follow the dialogue.

Got one for review..Here's how it looks, review of disc not written yet

http://zombiesdontrun.net/random-terror/a-look-inside-the-black-christmas-seasons-grievings-edition-anchor-bay-canada-only-blu-ray-release/

They've messed with it. I'm not sure to what level yet, but I've switched back and forth between the two a few times for the opening scene and have noticed more film grain and damage to the opening credit card and then the first POV shot seems to have some flair coming from the side a bit. So they've done something different for sure.

Sadly I can't do screen grabs, but I will say if nothing else they re-scanned it and just didn't try to fix things as much.

Like I said with the first POV shot, in the Critical Mass disc we couldn't see the boarder of the shot, it fit the screen (maybe stretched?). This time we see the boarder around the scene.

I'm not sure I'd say it looks a whole lot better than the other. It could just be me and I'm not sure of technical stuff, but as far as looks go it seems about even with me. I think it looks about as good as it will ever look.

They've done something different or maybe it is coming from a different scan?
Anyway, looking forward to your review too.
I guess you can confirm there are no English subtitles, right?
