I was sad to hear when Sony was getting out of RPTVs. I love my 60" SXRD. Bye bye Sammy RPs. I guess I'll be moving to Front Projection next go round.

"To each their own..." or something like that.

I have two Mits (73" & 65") RPTVs. To me, they are very nice and I am
very happy with them. And the people that come over to the house always
comment on the great picture.

Haha, it is. It's a Sony that had to have the picture tubes replaced multiple times.

I guess it was just a bad first impression.

Default OLED DLP Is Great

I think its sad that the DLP's are going the way of the dodo. What about those awesome "its the mirror's" commercials?

Anyway, read any Theater Review and nothing gets blacks blacker then a DLP and with the LED introduction ... no more burned out lamps. Nothing fails! no burn in, no breaking parts, no dead pixels. Unfortunately the marketing pushes the sexier new technologies and ... something awesome goes away. My 67'' Samsung for $1800 is just as crisp if not crisper then the $4000 60" comparable LCD or Plasma. And for most folks ... that extra little bit of room is negligible so if you are not hanging on a wall its a rip off in my mind.

oh well ...

Well, they may not make them anymore, but my custom RPTV has got years of life, and plenty of parts for servicing. Now if I can keep the guys who designed the upgrade and maintain it alive forever, I am set

Nothing like seeing exceptionally high grade optics being driven entirely by a exceptionally high quality HD processor. Its 1080p bliss without the artificial sharpness

I love my Samsung LED DLP HDTV. It's freakin' awesome!! It has been beautiful since I first set her up and did the calibrations myself. It's crisp and breathtaking. Everyone who watches a BR on it is amazed at the picture.

I understand some people have a preference for Plasma or LCD, but it's just a preference.

I'm happy to join the new technology the next go-around, but for me that won't be for at least 3 years.

Thumbs up Samsung Rear Projections

Thank goodness I just got one this past summer. It has LED light rather than the old school bulb. That tv is magnificent. I play games on it and watch so many movies. Hasn't let me down yet. It's the love of my life!!

That's interesting. My LED DLP from Sammy is absolutely STUNNING. I won't be getting a new TV for many years.

Oh well...

I've never understood the craze over rear projection TVs. I've always thought that if your going to have a TV you should go for LCD or plasma so you don't have a lamp to replace.

I was just told by an ISF calibrater that what is nice about the rear projection TV is if the bulb goes and replaced, the PQ is like new again but if a plasma or a LCD picture starts dimming, you throw it away.

That is what I was told. I personaly know nothing about it.

The craze is that you can get a large screen with a great picture for half the price you would pay for a similarly sized lcd or plasma with a similar picture quality.

I tried explaining that to a fellow in another thread by comparing two tv's I purchased in 2007. Within a few months of each other I bought a 56" Samsung LED DLP and a 47" Westinghouse LCD. I paid very close to the same price for each tv. Each TV has very similar features... 1080P, 4HDMI, all that jazz. The difference between the two is the picture quality is SOOO much better on the DLP than the LCD. The gentleman in the other thread was like "yeah.... but the Westy is a CHEAP LCD" and he is right about that..... but the point is that the DLP was just as CHEAP pricewise..... but not nearly as CHEAP quality wise.

LCD's have a lamp,....it's just not as consumer replaceable as a DLP.

In most cases that is correct. It all depends on if the bulb is the only thing that wears out,...i.e.,...color wheel. Even then,....it's not that bad to replace,.....and YES,....that should give a "like new" picture.

Not too shabby for "outdated" tech.,....or maybe it's just too cost effective for the MFG's.

Unfortunately the majority of buyers think "thin is in" and think that HD is HD - not realizing the difference in picture quality. Most people don't realize the still need a place for the components (cable box, amplifier) so thier thin TV and stand take up the same floor space as a DLP.

agreed. i LOVE my mitsu . and if i had a same size lcd, i would not hang it on the wall. i can see how some people like it, but its not for me. its too bad they are killing off DLP . HOPEFULLY mitsu will see the growing market for these and keep making them. "bang for buck" is way up there.

May have to get a second one & keep it in storage as a back up.

I absolutely agree. I do not have a DLP, I have a 70 inch Sony SXRD XBR, which does need the bulb changed, but it came with an extra bulb. I purchased it in November 2006 and am still on the first bulb. The picture is wonderful and I have no plans to replace it for a long time. Its a shame that RP's are dying, because you are so right on, they are such a good value when compared to a similar size LCD flat panel. Oh well, when I do replace it, I will go to a front projection system.

Same TV here, 55". And I agree with you and another poster here of the hype that "thin is in." Because these companies are a business, it's more about the bottom dollar than the quality when it can be sacrificed. The only regret I have with a RP is the viewing angles. It's still nice, just a little more of a "bragging right."
