I hope they correct the aspect ratio on BD. I thought it looked right as a widescreen DVD, but look here:

Yeah I have North By Northwest. It is astounding on Blu Ray. Out of all Hitchcock movies I want Rear Window and Rope!

Just read that Universal are letting us vote for the next catalogue title from a list of 10 titles, and Psycho is one of them

Rope is amazing! But I REALLY want Psycho, Rear Window and Vertigo first!

Psycho is a must, we need this blu-ray asap.

It's funny, many choices on that poll are some of my most wanted, Big Lebowski, Back to the Future, etc.

Let's just hope Universal doesn't screw this up (or Spartacus, but that's a different matter ).

I don't know, wasn't the 1.75:1 AR pretty much dead by 1960? I just find it highly unlikely that Hitchcock would've composed for 1.75:1 when 1.85 had clearly been established for several years by that time as the standard flat ratio. Since Dial M for Murder in 1954 onward, all of Hitchcock's films (included those shot in VistaVision at Paramount) had been composed for 1.85:1 (VistaVision uses a 1.50:1 negative, and can be projected at either 1.66:1, 1.85:1, or 1.96:1, but Paramount's preferred projection was 1.85:1).

1.75:1 was used primarily by Walt Disney, on many animated and live action movies, so it's possible that it was supposed to be in 1.75:1. Then again, the difference between 1.75:1 and 1.85:1 is so small that I doubt it suddenly looked 'correct' when it uses that ratio.

Oh please don't screw this up Universal. I've been waiting for another Hitchcock on blu. But I'm gonna hate it if they screw it up with edge enhancement and DNR and such. And I hope they give it more than just a regular blu-ray case. At least a fancy slip-cover or somethin', maybe... And I hope they release Rear Window and Vertigo soon after. That'll be the day as long as they get good/supurb transfers. Universal has done good with some titles. But I've gotten scared since I seen how bad Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels looked, even though it was still better than the DVD. Can't wait to see how Spartacus turns out though with its transfer, even though it's not a title I'm lookin' forward to or even seen, but maybe if it turns out good enough maybe Psycho will too. Hopefully.

I agree. Universal has already been disappointing with the number of catalog titles they release. They don't need to screw up the ones they're releasing at all. Hopefully Spartacus will look great too.

restored version will be shown at Cannes Classics this year...

- PSYCHO (United States, 109’, 1960) by Alfred Hitchcock. Print restored by Universal Pictures and Audionamix. Please note that the film’s soundtrack has been restored/reconstructed.
