Basically, if there is a market for it and it is a safer (i.e. the likelihood of audiences showing up to theaters for it is solid in their minds) story or concept to shell out greenback on, it'll probably get a greenlight.

For example, with the recent financial success of films like "Marley and Me" and "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" the studios will probably be actively seeking development of dog-centric scripts or pitches. Also, due to the current recession almost the entire globe is finding itself in you will be hearing about quite a few financial-hard-times-centric movies getting shepherded along (including a "Wall Street" sequel and another attempt at "The Great Gatsby").

Marley and Me is actually really good. As for Beveily Hills, Disney's name on it that makes money. Parents take there kids to see anything that says Disney.

great gatsby..good book saw portions of the movie..(fell asleep in class tho lol)

I agree - this is the oddest bit of news ever. Karate and the original Karate Kid movie had its basis in Japanese culture (in particular, I believe Okinawan). There's always been this superiority competition between Kung Fu & Karate (haven't you seen the old Bruce Lee documentaries). Well, I guess to American audiences they wouldn't know the difference!

i wish thery would just leave classic movies well enough alone! the original karate kid is one of my all time fave films!!! they are going to ruin it!
