Default Jackie Chan is the New Mr. Miyagi in "Karate Kid" Redo

From Variety...

Quote:
Jackie Chan is in final negotiations to join the Columbia Pictures remake of "The Karate Kid."

Harald Zwart will helm the pic, which has been revamped as a starring vehicle for Jaden Smith.

Set in an exotic Asian locale, the new film will borrow elements of the original plot, wherein a bullied youth (Smith) learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor (Chan). Chris Murphy penned the screenplay.

"Karate Kid" will shoot early this summer in Beijing.

Jerry Weintraub, who launched the original 1984 pic, is producing alongside Overbrook Entertainment's James Lassiter, Will Smith and Ken Stovitz. China Film Group Corp. will co-produce in China.

International martial-arts star Chan has put his karate skills to use in such English-language films as the "Rush Hour" trilogy, "The Forbidden Kingdom" and the upcoming "The Spy Next Door."

Zwart most recently helmed "The Pink Panther 2" for the studio and MGM.

I could do what I always do when I dont want to pay to see something, but see it anyways. I pay for something I do want to see, watch it, then walk into the film I dont want to pay for.

Nooooooooooo!! This is tragic, folks.

Mr. Miyagi is my hero...I grew up on the Karate Kid movies. Well, the first two at least.

What a shame. *shakes head*

Kung Fu Kid one would hope. Jackie Chan in China doing a movie about Karate doesn't really sound right...

Jackie Chan has not done anything worth mentioning since the new Drunken Master imo

I can't bring myself to see this because of Jayden Smith. He was just downright horrible in The Day the Earth Stood Still. Some people shouldn't be in acting just because their parents are good.

True, they are not great films by any stretch, but I still have to admit to being fond of the first two "Rush Hour" installments (the third, however, is not even worth a bargain bin-price).

Still, Jackie Chan is not exactly one whose acting chops are as impressive as his physical/martial arts ones... in my opinion, respectfully.

And I dont even think all his kung fu movies are all that great, I am really ONLY fond of the two Drunken Masters, Super Cop, and Rumble in the Bronx. The rest seem so corny.

Bingo. I would be more open to this, but once I read Jaden Smith I was like "Nope, no thanks."

Mos def, and I doubt he ruined the film, I mean its a remake of a classic...and that in some cases ruin it for some lol.

the problem is that those aren't good Chan movies. you need to watch his old stuff like Fearless Hyena, Young Master, Snake and Crane Arts of Shaolin etc. Those movies are before he got all crazy with the stunts and the movies were some bad ass Kung Fu. The movies you're talking about are after he destroyed his body doing all those stunts. Check out Fearless Hyena and I promise you won't be disappointed, it's one of my personal favorites. Just make sure it's not FH 2, because that movie is essentially just extra footage the studio put together to make another movie.
