I think it's safe to say myself as well as my family has been hit pretty hard.

I busted my butt and sacrificed so much to earn my degree in Business Finance, and after 6 months I'm still working at Best Buy. Seems like every place I apply they don't even call me back or they are on a hiring freeze. In 2007 I had ZERO debt, in 2008 I'm about $10,000 in the hole.

My mom now lives in a motel, after the bank foreclosed on her house.

What doesn't kill you just makes you stronger, things will turn around. Here's to 2009!

but I have a job so I can't complain
I have a job and I complain all the time.

Seriously i am thankful for my job. I work in Banquets at a nice resort and can work as much as I want(70 hours this week) and OT is not an issue, we dont get any OT pay. Before everyone says that is illegal, I work mostly for tips and it comes to about 22-26 dollars and hour. Then I get an additional 4.50 as my base pay. We voted on it years ago and if we wanted OT, then it could ONLY b on the base pay and they would stop us at 40 hrs.

In the summer though, I can only get15-20 hours max, and and alot of times even less and the rat of pay also drops by about half.

Our employer just pu out a freeze on raises, no more personal days, no more 401k match and they under order, which F***s us when we run out of a beverage or food and the client ordered it and signed a contract and then we must give a discount for not honoring the discount, so we lose even more money. Dumb asses

Nice I like that!

Well I have two jobs one pays the bills and the other allows me to buy my toys.

The first one have done away with OT. They will scream even if its a few hours a week. There have been some lay offs but then they hire some one else within a week. Everyone has been trying to figure it out. One thing, it's nice to have a define benefit pension so we're hardly effected by the stock market.

The second job hasn't been great but it's still let me buy a few toys and it got my threw x mas.

A poor economy affects everyone in some way or another.
Me, here, not really bad.
Food prices went up a bit, fuel prices are as stable as a bowl of Jello so that doesn't help anything.

I recently bought myself a 42" LCD for my bedroom, about 2 weeks ago I bought a new printer, 3 weeks ago an external HDD.

I'll live.

Have you tried contacting Aquent? They are an employment firm, and when I found myself out of work a couple years ago (in Richmond), Aquent got me a decent job with PM until I was able to get something permanent in my field.

Pftt. I posted a topic like this last month and got gang raped. I have not seen any econimic crysis on our vacation to Las Vegas and CA (Disneyland). Vegas was a zoo. Our hotel was overbooked. You could hardly walk on the strip. Disneyland had over 60,000 people in the park that day. They closed the main gates by 2 PM. An adult ticket is $94.00 and a child is $84.00. If there's a bad economy...how are these places so friggin busy?

Since I own my own Business its hit me Good

It was bad enough in this town for REAL work and to try and make a sale but since everything is closing you can't even get a part time job at a Factory until summer hits and people want to upgrade there sound systems, rims etc

Remote start sales have way up

This is why I’m on this site so much these days

Then where the frig did all these people come from? Is it a case of people vacationing here from another country?

Don't kid yourself. The economy has affected everyone. Some people just don't know it yet.

Personally, I still have a job but I am not making any purchases and I am trying to save as much as possible. I think it's going to take another year at a minimum before the start of a turn around.

So I guess to answer the OP's question. No, this (so-called) bad economy has not affected me. And I didn't see any signs of it in my travels.

Entertainment does well during a recession/depression - thus hollywood's tinsel town days of the 30's and 40's when they were pumping out a film a week. Radio and TV tycoon General David Sarnoff of RCA, the most potent force in the creation of telivision, was making millions while others were out on the street looking for work and selling apples.
