FFXIII 360 exhibits storage limitations, PS3 not affected

Source

According to Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase, the Xbox 360 version of the eagerly awaited RPG may only include English voiceovers due to its limited storage capacity per disc – the PlayStation 3 release, however, is not affected by such constraints thanks to Blu-ray.

If true, so much for the promise that other than storage media the product would be identical.

Not surprised really to be honest. I mean it's just like when NISA brought Ar tonelico 2 to the U.S. because almost 25% of the Japanese voice acting was cut off of the U.S. release just to fit the English dub for a PS2 game which is like similar size capacity as a 360 game(or close enough). Oh well not any of my concern but I'm sure a lot of fans will be angry.

I don't know, I think a lot of the fans of FF already have a PS3 since the franchise has been with Sony in the recent years. I don't think this game will sell on 360 as well as Microsoft is hoping. RPG's haven't sold well on the system anyways and if this rumor is true then the sales will just be abysmal on the 360.

Well my theory is a lot of uninformed people will buy the 360 version and then when they see that there is no option for Japanese audio(since almost everyone these days hates English dubs which I could never understand). But anyways though it's going to piss off some 360 owners when they see no option for Japanese audio. A lot of 360 owners have been waiting for FFXIII to be released on the 360 ever since it was confirmed that not only Sony will have it because of the fact that the other 360 rpgs have sucked in sales and the only good ones are Eternal Sonata, Tales of Vesperia, and maybe Star Ocean 4.

Not really a shock...trying to compress something that would have been on a BD50 disc down onto a not silly number of DVDs, mean you are going to need to cut something.

However I doubt that most 360 owners will complain, they seem happy to be just getting this game

I'm just glad they're doing the PS3 version of the game first, then porting it over to 360. That way, we know they won't dampen down the PS3 version just because of the limited capacity of the 360's discs.

But since they know that they will have to do a 360 version, they will limit theirself on the creation of the PS3 no?

For me it's the other way around. I can never understand why some people prefer a dub over the original audio track. The original voices are always the ones that match best a production, be it movie, anime or game, as said production is created with those voices in mind. Dubs more often than not feel out of place (problems with lip-synching, wrong intonations, etc)

Look at it this way: would you rather see a movie like Lord of the Rings with a Chinese dub ( ) or with the original audio in English and Chinese subtitles?

I personally hate 'localizations'. I don't want a release to be altered in any way or form (dub, cutting parts out or replacing title screens, etc) from it's original version, except for the inclusion of subtitles, which can preferably be turned on/off.

I've lost count of the number of Japanese productions that have been raped in the US and vice-versa, US productions that have been raped in Japan (seriously, watch Friends in Japanese dub and tell me again that dubs are the way to go).

So I'll be happy with my Japanese audio track for FFXIII, thank you very much.

Remember when MGS4 was limited to only English voiceovers due to space limitations?

..And that was only on Blu-Ray.

"Obviously, when we talk about XIII it's for PS3 and Xbox – with PS3 being on Blu ray there would be enough memory, but on Xbox probably not," said Kitase. "At the moment we're thinking of releasing the voice in English only. Are there many people who would like to play with Japanese voices?"

Could this be an early indication of future limitations on the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII? Should this be the case, let’s just hope nothing affects the content of the PS3 release. Regardless, there’s always the exclusive Final Fantasy Versus XIII to look forward to.

For me it's all the same thing I mean the characters are just animated so there is no true great language to the mouth movement. With mouth movement as long as the words project the same as the mouth movement then who cares what language you are listening to because either way a dub is a dub right? Even original language is still considered a dub. Only live action material is where it actually matters.

The only time I noticed an out of sync dub was the Resident Evil Degeneration movie even if the voice actors did a good job of acting but if they kept it in sync then it would of been a terrific dub.

I don't know for japanese games, but for american one, like uncharted, prince of persia or even burnout, french voice (i'm french) make the games feel cheap... so I guess its the same thing for fans of japanese animation...
