The PS3 controller is smaller and lighter than the PS2. A common criticism is it feels cheap .However it can withstand punishment.
Your hands will cramp when trying to use it for something like GP2 using manual shifting. The buttons are pressure sensitive so you find yourself mashing yoiur thumb down hard just like the PS2. The end resiult is just like the PS2, a cramped hand with a very sore thrumb. Not fun. The ability to change the controls to something you would think would be there for every game. Instead there are only around 8 templates. Nothing different there. You will be very hard pressed to find anyone who uses the motion detection. I've read stories about "Blazing Angels." The Logitech controller for the PS2 gave the user a wireless connection. So where is the innovation? Edit: I think they could have done much better. BTW why is this post in "Blu-ray Players" forum? Did it get lost or something? Last edited by GasCat; 05-01-2007 at 01:16 AM. |

EB Games has some 360 fanboys for salesmen it seems. Almost every story I've heard about someone pushing the 360 over the PS3 that contained some whoppers dealt with EB Games.
As to the CNN article. The Atari 2600 with it's revolutionary rotating controller and Breakout is the true future of gaming. |

I think right now Nintendo and their developers are trying hard to come up with games that use the Wiimote innovatively. Meanwhile current crop of games are either simple plotless games or franchise ports.
Since the Wii comes with Sports, I think most users tend not to venture off that game much. Only the ACTUAL gamers would buy other games, if they can afford to after buying the same game for either the PS3 or the X-Box 360. So while Nintendo sells a lot of hardware, I don't think it sells a lot of software comparatively. 2009 is looming quite fast, in terms of CE anyways. Nintendo better come up with a HD console fast. Once the NTSC broadcast is shut down, a lot more Americans will be owning HDTVs and wondering why the Wii doesn't look so good anymore. fuad Last edited by WriteSimply; 05-01-2007 at 11:10 AM. Had to send an email, this is what I sent:
Dear Editor, FAO Chris Taylor; Have you ever seen or used a PS3 I wonder? The controller is widely regarded as the finest around and it HAS changed. In addition to the wireless ability, the shoulder buttons have a more progressive function to suit the change in gaming style and the whole thing is motion sensitive on six axis, hence the name 'SIXAXIS'. Also, if one doesn't want to use the controller for the other uses for the PS3 (CD replay, DVD replay, internet access, Blu-ray replay, online community etc etc etc ("gee-whiz features that turned out to be a drawback...") then there is a standard bluetooth controller available for a few dollars. Also, the PS3 has not 'lost' against the Wii as it is not a direct competitor. The pricing and age range target are completely different as are most of the other technical benefits - Blu-ray being the main. Blu-ray is the type of next generation movie replay format utilising HDTVs. This in itself is leagues ahead of its direct competition HD-DVD, which is out-gunned in terms of sales and ability. So, could you possibly re-iterate just HOW the PS3 went wrong, as in my eyes it seems like a true success story in its infancy. Maybe before you write your next article on consumer you may wish to do a little more research on the subject. Your respectfully, I'll probably not get a reply, but at least I've aired my views. ![]() |

Nice, you should have also mentioned how it's outpacing the Xbox 360 when you compare those launches, so that if the writer really wanted to talk about which console got it wrong, it's that one. Is that 3 red lights I see? Nope, my PS3 only has one.

Some argue that the PS3 should be a game only device. Others are happy with its multiple abilities. Either way you win! If your a gamer, great you get extra, if not it's still a bonus! You get to watch movies, pictures, play music, etc. What's that? Your confused by the controller? That's why they made a remote!!! An extra 25bucks, not ridiculous by no means!
I don't see how the 'FUTURE' of gaming is GAME ONLY consoles. Society wants more from their devices. One subscriber stated that all those options on their cell phone was good, but not on a game console! The more I can get out of any device, the happier I am! I think that holds true with most readers here. How many here bought the 60GB version vs. the 20GB version for the simple fact for a mere 100 bucks more you got 40GB of space, media card slots, and wireless access? I wanted more functionality! I know some on here have the 20GB and that's fine, some don't want the extras, or the price doesn't match their needs, either way is fine. The point is a majority of people now and in the future will demand more options and features from one console. My PS3 serves as a one-stop shop for entertainment. As a matter of fact, the gaming part of it serves less than the movie and photo/music side does. I use the remote FAR MORE than I do the controller. Its a great controller, but with the remote available, my wife loves the PS3. It feels more like a blu-ray player to her than a game console. Which is exactly what Sony wanted to do! WHEW! ![]() |

I simply agree with the statement about non-games liking the Wii, better because the controller is easier to learn how to use, for Non-gamers. I said it before, my girlfriend is a non-gamer. She said that the PS2/3, Xbox 360 controllers have too many buttons and she will not take the time to learn them all just to play a game. I'm sure there are a lot of non-gamers that feel this way. The Wii controller is simple and doesn't take as much time to learn, so for non-gamers these games are fun. 95% of the people on here will disagree with this, because we are casual or hardcore gamers. Wii playing Wii, game cube, and N64 games is still a Video game system playing video games. Better example of using this statement against Nintendo’s Wii not being only a video game system, is to talk about it's channel options. Forecast Channel is about weather information, everything in the News Channel that doesn't deal with Video games, Photo channel, Everything in the Everybody Vetoes channel that doesn't deal with video games, & the Internet Channel. All of these features really have nothing to do with Wii being only a Video Game system. |

This tool knows that once you plug in the Nunchuk, the EZ to use Wiimote/Nunchuk combo has just as many buttons as the Dual Shock/Sixaxis right?

Remember when everyone used hate M$ because of all the money Bill Gates has...now it seems that every tom, dick and harry wanna hand over their hard earned money to M$. I just hope I don't hear them whine about that anymore since they seem so intent on supporting something that crashes all the time. Remember in the news when someone thru a pie in Bill Gates face. It was like someone European country. Given that they have all that money, you figure they should be the one subsidizing the the "more costly to build" console but then again if they follow that strategy they wouldn't have all that money to sit on.
