I agree you can be a PS3 and Xbox guy. Kiddtigger I'm glad you're happy with the Elite. I'm not going to upgrade any time soon, my TV only supports up to 1080i so there's really no point to upgrading to the Elite, I might buy the 120 GB Harddrive once the price drops or I find a good deal on Ebay.

I miss Dreamcast. I'm just sad to hear the downfall of it. I wish it would have been out longer.

Pretty much, every comparison done by IGN and the other gaming press has come to the conclusion that the HDMI port only increases compatibility for 1080p. The VGA route yields the same result, and all Pio Elites take 1080p by all inputs, Component, HDMI and VGA.

So depending on which Pio he has got, I can pretty much guarantee that this is the placebo effect.

But what the hell, whatever floats your boat I suppose.

I have the PRO-FHD1, and no, it doesn't do 1080p over component. It's not a placebo effect! Say what you want, but you're wrong. You could cover the part of my tv that tells me what input is being used and switch between inputs. I GUARANTEE you I could tell you which one was the Elite and which one is my old 360. The difference to me is very distinct. Let people talk about what they don't know...Keep in mind that NBA Street: Homecourt outputs NATIVELY in 1080p, so this is not just a HDMI vs. component comparison, but also a 1080p vs. 1080i/720p comparison.

Linking two Dreamcast never caught on in the US here, I had to buy an imported link-up cable from Japan, since this wasn't supported here in the US, companies had disable the link-up feature on the US version but you can enable it with a button code to bring that option up, you'll also need two copies of the game but if you can figure this out, it's lots of fun!

The PROFHD1 most definitely does do 1080p over component. The X360 just doesn't do 1080p over component, neither do many other CE devices (none that I can think of).

Either way this is a 1080i vs 1080p thing in all reality and with an PROFHD1 there should be no difference as it can do 2:2 cadence properly and the 1080i signal will be transformed into a 1080p stream before being displayed. So you may have had the older X360 set in 720p mode, but if it was in 1080i the difference on your screen should be negligible at best. On lesser screens, yes the difference would be much more pronounced as it would be 540p when set in 1080i mode, but Pio Elites are the best TVs in the world for a reason.

Ok, maybe my set does 1080p over component (thanks for that. I didn't know that). I assumed it didn't because when I set my old 360 to output 1080p via component, it was scrambled. All I know was that I needed HDMI to get 1080p with my 360, and now that it does do 1080p, the difference is VERY noticable.

I'm with you man, I hated the Playstand brand for a while because it killed the Dreamcast. Sega was purely a gaming company and didn't have the financial budget like Nintendo and Sony. I would of luved a Dreamcast 2 (aka Naomi 2) and second generation of VMUs. Remember these? I got over it and now I luv my PSP and PS3.

Ah I loved the VMU's. You can play games on them and such. The graphics on Dreamcast were so superior at the time. I still remember waiting in line the night of launch in the rain. Good times. But yeah, sucks they had to pull the system from the market.

Thumbs up

I work in the Broadcasting Audio/Visual industry and the jump from Component to HDMI on the Xbox 360 is definatly noticeable. The crispness is off the charts. Not a placebo effect at all. The edge that some PS3 games had, is no more. The truth be told...

Techno out!

Differences could be attributed to calibration between inputs. Some TV's handle component video better than HDMI & Vice Versa.
Both my DLP & MY LCD handle 1080p over component. On not one single device, be it ps3 or HDDVD have I been able to detect an appreciable difference between HDMI & Y-PB-PR.

Now if you are seeing a difference, I would attribute it to your settings, which BTW how is your set calibrated for each input?

I would take it a step further and tell you, I would bet you couldn't tell a movie displayed in 1080p to one being output in 1080i upscaled by the tv to 1080p. but you are a self proclaimed [rabbit ears]"Videophile"[/rabbitears] so who knows? =)

Halo is horrible now...the first one rocked and I thought the second was garbage...adn the 3rd one will prolly be junk as well.....i admit I was both a xbox and PS2 owner but I got sooooo bored of the xbox esp after I beat Doom3 for it (the only reason I bought it in the first place....lol....dont like playing FPS on the computer)...I will never buy a 360 because of that....the PS3 is so much more powerful in every shape and form and could support more high end games in the future over the 360 as the Xbox did over the PS2.....case in point, long live SONY......and BLU RAY!

Actually the edge is still there if you want to talk HDMI 1.3 vs 1.2 which the "Elite" uses. Oh and the fact that way more games on the PS3 are native 1080p, where as the 360 which has way more games right now, has what 2 games in 1080p?

Also just like hard drive in 360, not all 360 systems have the HDMI meaning few developers will support it with 1080p material in the future either.

You are probably right,But not because of HDMI... as the 360's (ALL OF THEM) can output 1080p, through either component or VGA. You just need a TV that can accept it via component, Which many are starting to do. But In the end, with the frame rate issues even the powerhouse ps3 has with 1080p games...I'd assume it would still be a rarity this console generation for M$

Nope; just speaking the truth. I tend to read forums more than post. I was not recruited or am I a Kid. This is just my observation. Take it as you will, but HDMI versus Component on the 360 is an improvement.

Agree to disagree.

"The crispness is off the charts"

But hey...whatever makes you feel "ELITE" right?
