I beat Suikoden about 3 times back when I had it on PSOne disc. I d/led it from PSN but haven't played it too much. From what I remember it's not very long at all, I had all 108 characters and everything and had it beaten in less than 25 hours. Here's to hoping that part 2 gets released, because that game was much better.

That's not that long. you did all the side quests and what not. I remember putting in 70-80+ on FFVII-X

I can see why it was overlooked just graphically alone as FFVII blows it clearly out of the water.

Though I can't compare gameplay/story as I've played for 5 minutes. Though I have to say the audio in the game is a lot better than I expected, superior to FFVII in terms of quality.

Yeah, I remember it was relatively short for an RPG at the time. However, I don't ever think that length has ever been a determining factor of how good a game actually is. Don't agree with your assessment that S2 was much better than S1. But, I guess different strokes for different folks (although the games were quite similar - kind of like an FFIV to FFV type deal)... at least you actually played S1 when it came out unlike some other people who proclaim S2 the best without having played S1 or playing it a) after S2 and/or b) way after it was released.

True, FFVII was kind of like the KZ2 of its age! However, I think Suikoden 2D hand-drawn style ages much better than its 3D counterparts (Wild Arms battle scenes...ugh. The story scenes and overhead view...still good)... 2D just has that certain appeal.

The artwork has a special feel to it, and that makes it even more special.. the audio is shocking well put together.. The sound track itself has 48 songs..

Can you imagine a game where there are more characters then you will ever bother to level up.. each having there own uniquness bringing something special... to the team.

Oh and remeber if you can bring together all 108 characters something cool happens...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/108_Sta...tiny_(Suikoden) thats a list of all the characters have fun...

They each brought something different to the table and were both enjoyable.

I have those sitting next to my PS3. Maybe when I get tired of this game, I'll put one of them in.

Grandia - another classic (along with all the other games you mentioned. SO2 let me down slightly but that's only because I set my hopes up a little too high for that game. Still good though).

Ummmm how in the world did Star Ocean 2 let your down slightly?! The fighting system alone revolutionized RPG turn-based fighting imo.

I did enjoy it a lot but my hopes were extremely high for this game after hoping SO1 would come out here back in the SNES days. The fighting system was good, you're right. The narrative just wasn't as appealing to me and I don't seem to remember any memorable tunes/moments from the game like I do with S1, S2, FF Tactics, CT, FFIV, FFVI, etc...

Its okay I just wanted to ensure the mistake did not start to become common place.. a few chibi versions of 3 of the characters from CT are seen in a dream sequnece but there not happy.. there is no other connection between them.. And well the game gravely dissapointed me...

Grandia was one of those games that you can say it was pure... , star ocean 2 was almost perfect..

Indeed square squashed the fan community who tried to recreate the game...

If you say that then you do not know your history...

Tales of Phantasia -> Star Ocean -> Star Ocean Second Story

That was the progression, you will find it used the same battle system as Star Ocean 1, which was a improvement to Tales of Phantasia which is a very solid snes game btw..

I agree the story and music was lacking in comparison to those other titles mentioned.

Do you remember playing that Coluseum? Its at the very end. I remember playing in there longer than I did with the actual story, lol.
