+1, It's too difficult to pick between them. I have over 2,500 movies of which I have not seen near 600. Nevertheless I have seen Halloween and The Thing more than 15 times each one. The Fog in third place. |

I really love John Carpenter, despite that fact that he seems to have forgotten how to make a good movie.
![]() It just isn't possible to pick a favorite. Here is my top 5. The Thing - One of the best horror movies ever made. The pacing is engaging, the mood is unique and the special effects are horrifying even after all these years. Big Trouble in Little China - You Leave Jack Burton Alone! Nuff Said. They Live - This one is a favorite cult classic. Roddy Piper is surprisingly good plus this movie has the best fight scene ever in the history of fight scenes. In the Mouth of Madness - One of the best Lovecraftian horror movies ever made. Great cast, dark story ... I am very anxious to watch it again. Come on Blu!! Prince of Darkness - A very creepy and often forgotten about movie. Bonus - Alice Cooper makes a great homeless guy!! Last edited by Uberbot; 01-27-2009 at 02:23 AM. |

1. I would say Halloween (1978).
It is a perfect insidious effort. Eerie and unspecific: through its duration. A masterpiece of economy, a triumph of imagination, Halloween was John's peak effort. The score, the pacing, it’s a standard. Need I say more? 2. Assault of Presinct 13 (1976). Very personal, quite sparse, the film represents the pinnacle of less is more. Rio Bravo on steroids, Assault propels with kinetic force. Don't forget that soundtrack. “I have moments” 3. The Thing (1982). The last great film of Carpenter, it has budget and grace. Ennio Morricone did the score. But it still sounds like Carpenter. The epitome of a dark epic, the Thing isn’t easy to read. With intelligence and performance, the gore is just the icing. I wish more would take note. |
