Third, the picture on the Sony is better.
I'm not trying to turn this into a Sony vs Hewlett Packard thread.

I'm fine with Sony products. I could care less who makes the laptop.

The best thing to do is try them side by side. I was able to do this at Fry's Electronics.

The problem I had with the new Sony model was the brightness on the screen & not being able to dial it in.

It reminded me of my portable DVD player. You could actually see vertical strips of light coming from the bottom of the display up into the screen.

They were even there when you ran a Blu-ray movie. I took "The Dark Knight" with me to try them out.

I did give the Sony a good try. I actually bought it since it was about $500 less than the HP & thought I could dial the Xbrite screen down to get rid of the vertical lighting but wasn't successfull even after a call to Sony customer service.

I took it back 2 days later & tried The Dark Knight on multiple computers before choosing the HP because it gave the best picture on Blu-ray.

It was a couple of long nights at Fry's trying different ones out with The Dark Knight blu-ray but it was fun at the same time looking at the different laptops video quality.

Trust me if the Sony had given me the same PQ I would have went with it since it was $500 less. The only qualification I had to start with was it had to be 1080p.

I didn't realize there would be that much difference between laptop displays for 1080p Blu-ray.
