Watched this today. I really enjoyed this, I'm a massive Van Damme fan and thought his acting was top quality in this. Extras are good too!.

I am very upset that the US version pretty much shits bricks ( pardon my language ).

Whatever company thought it would be a good idea to put TWO different encodes with their own audio track should be shot, and left to rot.

I don't mind company's that create dubs for their movies. I personally prefer to hear the audio in it's original form and don't mind reading subtitles, but my friends don't. But why, why the hell would you create a DD 2.0 FRENCH track and then give a DD 5.1 ENGLISH track? Why!

And speaking of DD 5.1, why. Why just a DD and not a DTS-HD MA / TrueHD?

Thankfully I imported the U.K. JCVD disc, and despite it having the worst cover art I have, it has French TrueHD, and a great picture. So screw the US company releasing it!

i think some people are getting confused. there are 3 different audio versions. you have the theatrical release, english version, and french version. if you use the theatrical release audio version you get no dubs. the english is in english and it is the actor's (jcvd) voice. when they talk in french, you get english subs. maybe im way off, but i dont see the problem. i watched it yesterday and then watched some again today and everything seems fine. i think the problems are when you use the english & french version. try the theatrical version and you should be good to go.

this is for the US version.

What a disappointment about the US release of this disc. Waiting all this time for the release, while it only has French DD 5.1, and none of the excellent supplements found on the U.K. disc. Guess I'll be importing after all...

PAL only pertains to standard definition.

The main feature is in 1080p. Which is why it plays fine on your Region A player.

Amazon is notorious for copying the technical info from the DVD release into the product pages of the Blu-ray. Thats why it says it on Amazon.co.uk but doesn't make any sense.

Just ordered the UK Edition. That sucks about the special features not working. I have a Slim also. Oh well I still get the French HD audio.

I see. Thanks.

So PAL and region codes are entirely different things?

Before I buy my international blu-rays, I always check the blu-ray region code website.

Guess they exclude to mention special features on that checklist...

I'm still debating whether to pick this one up. Can someone clarify whether or not the U.S. release has the theatrical version with English subtitles when French is spoken, but no subtitles when English is spoken? I've read conflicting reports about the U.S release only having English subtitles in SDH (non-dialogue audio is subtitled) mode? Is this true or not?

Also, can anyone attest to the Dolby TrueHD track being noticeably better than the Dolby Digital track on U.S. release? Trying to decide if the import is worth it, and to forgo the limited extras on the region 1 release.

Yes, select Theatrical version from the menu and you're good to go.

Here's the excerpt from my Superior International BDs thread:

JCVD - U.S. Screenshots U.K. Screenshots
U.S. - Removable subtitles with French DD 5.1
U.K. - Burned-in subtitles with French Dolby TrueHD 5.1

The UK version has a bunch of typos in the subtitles. Is the US any better in thsi regard?

Not sure on that, but the U.K. version does contain lossless audio.

Shouldn't the quality of subtitles match those from the "theatrical" version of the film, or did the U.S. and U.K. editions redo all this for the BD release?

Any word on whether or not the upcoming U.S. re-release will have the "A Day with JCVD" documentary?

I was looking at the upcoming releases and was surprised to see this getting a re-release. Be nice if it now got lossless audio like the U.K. disc, but I have a feeling it may just be another recycling of transfers.
