I haven't seen Manhunter. I really need to give it a go especially with Mann behind the movie. Hopkins was brilliant as Lector.

On the TV Edit, Lector says; "

More Michael Mann films need to appear on Blu-ray, starting with Manhunter and Heat
Ok guys, you really can't compare the 2 since Silence of the Lambs is actually a sequel. Now, if you want to compare Manhunter to Red Dragon then yes, Manhunter is by far the better film even though Anothy Hopkins didn't play Lecter.

No, Miggs says it as she is walking past his cell before she even gets to Lector.

Subtle observation:
Re-watching Silence of the Lambs during Halloween season, later in the film, Clarice is in a diner talking to a lady, and it took me a rewatch again to recognize that the lady is looking directly into the camera. When Clarice talks (Jodi Foster), she's not looking directly into the camera.

Normally, movies try to avoid that, but this film tends to show the camera as if it was Clarice the characters are talking to. An interesting perspective in terms of film composition/direction. I think Hannibal does this too, but I'd have to rewatch the earlier interview scenes.

I’ll never forget my mom renting this when I was 11 or 12 because Hannibal was coming out the following week and it scared the crap out of me. Now in my late 30s I easily consider it one of the 10 best movies I’ve ever seen and I still enjoy revisiting it every few years or so.

Hannibal wasn't as exciting, but an interesting sequel.

A classic horror/thriller, and I'd say it was a clear inspiration of the 2024 Long Legs film.

My only question is at the end. How does the main villain,
[Show spoiler]standing at point blank range from Clarice, while wearing his night vision green goggles, manage to miss her when she is standing still?
Otherwise, great crime/horror film.

Yes but it was many many years ago and it was the ITV TV cut. Have the Blu Ray kicking around just not got around to rewatching it yet.

One of the best movies ever made. Stunning performances from heroes and villains alike.
The only drawback for me (for other movies that I watch) is the house switch-a-roo at the end got me but now that I’ve seen it I’ll never be fooled again.

The kickback on firing could've made him miss, true.

Good point about that. Kind of like with the Sixth Sense, once you have seen it, some of the magic from that first discovery/tension is lost understandably. Still a really tense moment/reveal for her.

Recoil. Buffalo Bill used a .357 magnum. It's got quite a kick.

I saw it on opening night. It was the best movie I have ever watched on Valentine's Day. (She loved it, too.)

Wow. Were you having a bad day? Can understand if someone doesn't love the movie but that reaction is baffling.

I noticed this too on one of my viewings--there are a lot of scenes where many characters look directly into the camera. I think I saw in the extras that this was a deliberate choice to make the film more intimate--in particular, to bring audiences closer to Clarice's POV, since most of these shots are POV shots (although I think they cut into other POVs too).
