Hell their DVD prices are way too high as it is.. their DVD prices are nearly what the Blu Ray Prices are at and both are too high.

They should reduce their DVD's to $10-15 range and put their Blu's at $15-20 max.

Their prices are already on the high side. Pinocchio is the most expensive blu I have. I usually only buy blus under $20, but I was excited for the release.

Disney could always get rid of the DVD copy and the digital copy. Even toss a few "features" that aren't worth the bits they occupy. Then I might be willing to let them still keep the same price point.

(But either way, price increase results in less Disney product for me to consider buying. I'm pretty selective.)

Typical internet panic created by somewebsite. While Engadget are good, they have a tendency to jump to the guns right away

I agree. I do not even use the Digital Copies of a movie. To me, those are a waste.

That's the point though. They can add all that crap for pennies on the dollar and then jack the price up $5-10 as a result. Any Blu that retails for more than $25 is too much already in my opinion and the ones that really irk me are the ones that start at $27+. They can have them.

I believe it wouldn't just be the digital copy....but a reversible side that has DVD as well...

this is horrible because I don't want the DVD version or the Digital copy.....

I just want the movie...and on top of all that....I don't care about extras or BD Live or whatever....

I just want lossless audio and the best transfer available given the capacity..

I believe they have "cheaper rates" for FL residents. Probably because of people complaining. I went to the Orlando area last week for spring break and stopped @ Disney. I was planning on hitting a few parks but by the time you want the hopper option and water park etc. It's about $175/day. Of course, if you stay longer it's cheaper but a week at Disney is very expensive.

Disney rakes in billions of dollars a year...there's no need to raise prices.

Prices are too high as it already is. Heck, on most releases now I wait for a sale or good deal. If prices go up I'm not buying until they come down.

I've been saying this for a while. The cost to retailers has been raised by about $2-$3 on average.

For a retailer to compensate for something like that it means the price at the store level will probably go up by $5 (on average).

Luckly I'm looking at Disney's movies for the rest of the year and I can offically say "who cares"........they probably have the worst lineup of titles compared to everone else.

Just to compare this to another stuido (FOX), surprisingly they will NOT raise the cost for these "extra" items included in the Blu-ray package. For instance Marley & Me and Bride Wars will both have digital copies and a DVD copy but it will cost exactly the same as every other release from FOX (like Notorious or Wrestler).

$30 for a blu-ray and a dvd isn't too much. that is actually dirt cheap. over $30 for basically two movies on a 2 disc blu-ray together isn't too much either. i don't mind paying a higher price if it's got a lot to offer that would cost more if you bought it all separately. again, it all depends on what's being offered with the price increase.

Disney did the same thing with DVD, I remember Disney DVD being quite low and they suddendly increase the prices. It was one of the big reasons I waited so long to Get Robin Hood.

If I may also address another point. I will use Pinocchio as an example. They are not releasing the Blu-ray to get extra income because the film had a bad run at the theaters. Pinocchio has paid for itself many times over the years. They are not recouping any production cost associated with the film itself. It was made 70 years ago. The ONLY cost they have is the cost spent restoring the film (I would guess that is a fraction of what it costs to film a movie) and the cost of the Blu-ray process. Disney is making a mint off of their classic titles. (I am ok with them making money, I have some Disney stock) BUT, it is insane IMHO for Disney to raise prices on Blu's. INSANE! If you want to drive the consumer to this new and wonderful format, LOWER the prices Disney. You will still make millions on every classic film you release.

That's something I think they need to consider. While I do like the free DVD because I can give them to my nieces but if it makes the blu-ray cost more, they need to give us an option. Either buy the movie with a DVD or without, maybe a $5 difference.

Disney is discussing this right at a time when studios are starting to
talk about [B]lowering[B] prices.
I for one, will never pay more for a digital copy since they are essentially
worthless to me.

Either way, if all the studios start lowering MSRP's , Disney will have no
choice but to do the same...

I'm not even talking about the new prices for the Disney ones that have DVDs + Digital Copies and the Blu in there, but even in that case, if they are going to do a package deal like that, they should at least have a standard version with just the Blu-ray. I have no use for a DVD of a movie I own the Blu-ray of, period. If Disney wants to put out an edition with multiple copies of the same movie in the package at a higher price and people are willing to pay it, great for them, but at least give the rest of us the option. I want to see Blu-rays retail for no more than $20 for new titles and less for catalog titles. Sony should be leading the way on this since they have the most to gain from Blu-ray adoption increasing.

Lol. This post was a joke right?? Why on earth would you pay over 40 dollars for any movie? Especially a catalog title. Where on earth could you find a US released catalog title that is over 40 dollars?
