You can set your import setting to full wave file or Apple Lossless. No, you can't download at that high rate, but, if like me, 95% of your itunes library is downloaded from CD, you can have great quality sounding tunes. Very much capable of playing on a high quality system with good results.

But, I do agree that the general public has a different view than those who love music listening.

My wife is kind of like that, "This little radio sounds just as good as your big stereo."

I have oer 100 CD's in my i-pod, and when I dock it on my Onkyo i-pod dock through my 805........NOT EVEN CLOSE to what it really sounds like with just the CD in the player. It is a proven fact that mp3's are awful quality. sorry......

Also I should point out.......I have about 15 albums I have bought (i-tunes at the highest kbps that I could find), and they ALL sound muddy compared to the disc itself.)

Well, who put a gun to your head to make you load your iPod with crappy mp3 files? Rip all your music in lossless format, and it is identical to the CD.

How do i do it in lossless?

(by the way we were trying to say that mp3 files don't sound as good as a real CD........it's proven. I have seen several audio tests and professionals show how much sound quality you lose when converting to MP3.

Of course mp3 does not sound as good as CDs, no one is saying they do.

When I rip to FLAC, I use a program called EAC (Exact Audio Copy), but since you are using an iPod, using Apple Lossless is more straightforward for you via iTunes.

To rip in Apple Lossless via iTunes is very simple. Open iTunes, and click the iTunes tab at the top. Click the 'Import Settings' and select 'Apple Lossless Encoder', and set it to Automatic. Once done, go to the Playback tab and make sure Sound Enhancer and Sound Check are unchecked. That's it in a nutshell, start ripping away.

In iTunes, I click on Edit, then preferences, then import settings, or something like that. I don't about any itunes tab.

But, yeah, mp3 through a good stereo is worthless. I had the ipod dock for my 805 and gave it back for that reason. Later, I discovered you could change the settings for ripping CD onto itunes and that opened up a whole new world. The files are 25 mb each, so about 4 times as big a 256k files, but, the 120 gig ipod classic is so cheap, why not go lossless. I think you could even go full Wav file, but I am not quite as certain of that. With 120 gig classic, you can get 4800 songs a full apple lossless.

It's a whole new deal! But, you can't download from the iTunes store at better than 256k.

There's no point in keeping them in .wav format though when you can have lossless - they're identical.

I keep all my files usually in .flac since .shn went the way of the dodo. I have probably 500 live DMB shows mostly in .flac16 but several shows since 2005 in .flac24 and they reside on one 1TB HDD running in RAID1 with a second 1TB HDD.
