I still have the first pressing of the book. The film may not stay true at times to the source material, but I still love the picture. I still remember the big hoopla that surrounded Dune and the little press clippings of Lynch stating that Star Wars had ripped much of its lore from Dune (Wasn't Lynch considered for Return of the Jedi directoral chair?). My father still has the glossary of terms that were handed to us at the premeire of Dune.

I almost ordered the French version, but waited as I have so many other Blus on order that I wanted to wait and see.

I for one am looking forward to this.

This was at one time a HD-DVD exclusive, and has only been available on blu-ray via a French import.

I am interested to see which version of the movie will be used.

From what I understand, the extended footage was destroyed/lost and the only available copies were that that were used for television.

According to all the pre-release info I've read today, it will not contain the extended cut. As much as it pains me, like with WATERWOLD, no extended cut, no buy from me. The extended cut, minor editing warts aside, is a monumentally better piece of work than the grossly truncated theatrical cut.

I am soooo looking forward to what they do with this one! I grew up with this one, and remember seeing this on HBO when cable just started! I had an old VHS of this that ended up wearing out from so many plays! LOL! Can't wait!

My wife and I saw Dune in the theater and watch it whenever it is on a cable channel. We will certainly add it to our BD collection. So many great quotes and wacky going-ons.

I watch my HD-DVD version of Dune all the time, and it's PHENOMENAL!!!

Now, I finally get to have DTS-HD as well when this release comes out!

Both versions (Theatrical and Extendend) are deeply flawed. This is what people never understand that keep saying the "theatrical cut sucks". In fact, the extended cut leaves even more loopholes than the theatrical cut does.

Don't worry about this people. Either way, the movie is flawed, period. The extended cut only adds 20 minutes (going off the top of my memory), and it's not crucial at all to the story. It may answer a few more questions, but you'll still be confused most of the time about everything no matter what.

The tale of Dune can only be told through a Trilogy IMO. There's no way that any current cut of it does it justice. You just can't argue this.

Dune (1984) is like a picaso painting....it just never gets old, and it's a beautiful work of art.

I made the mistake of reading the book first. It would be hard for any movie to measure up to that, but we still love the movie anyway.

Great news. I just wish the studios would start concentrating on releasing more movies by masters like Lynch and quit putting out so much mediocre crap...

I've got the DVD release that contains both versions and I watched the theatrical version first and put off the extended cut for a long time. Finally got around to watching the extended cut and what a mess. So many things were changed, from the music to the opening sequence. But it seems like they just used a mish mash of editing room floor clippings. I know it isn't quite like that, but if you thought the EEs of the LOTR trilogy had pacing issues, this is a mess.

And I'm someone who always wanted to see the extended cut ever since the film was available on home media.

Actually, if you wanna see a more complete telling of the Dune novels, check out the Sci-Fi Channel mini-series. The production isn't as good. Lot of greenscreen stuff, but it's a better story telling all around.

Early today I made reference to needing to change my pants if they announced Vertigo on BD.

Regardless, I still need to change my pants. Dune is a favorite and the HD DVD looked -- in a word -- amazing. To say this is a day 1 purchase for me is an understatement.

Uh... might not be the best idea. Dune isn't quite a typical Lynch film, and it seems to be kind of a love it or hate it affair. I, personally, think its by far the worst Lynch film I've seen, although I watched it late at night and was only awake for the first half...

...I'll have to give it another chance, I'll probably still buy it for cheap just because its Lynch

I thought Dune was pretty entertaining. Although the Sci-Fi mini-series is a better collection of stories and pacing even though its about 8 hours.

Still hoping they decide to make a mini-series out of God Emperor of Dune, I like how the SyFy channel has handled the story of Arrakis so far.
