From what he said, you won't really see much of Spawn. I don't like that idea.

I was a big fan of the comic book the first few years it was out. The movie was 2.5 out of 5 stars for me. I haven't heard much buzz about Spawn, am I just out of the loop?

Go big or go home. Would love to see another Spawn but dont think it needs a reboot, do a sequel.

Definitely needs to be a big budget flick. It's the only way I envision Spawn being done. I'd could see Guillermo del Toro doing a great Spawn though obviously that's not going to happen anytime soon with his current schedule. Anyways there's no way McFarlane should be allowed to direct it with basically no experience in the field, though of course he should be constantly on scene for advisement purposes.

Big budget. I think Mcfarlane is a great artist, but I never really cared for his writing and based on his brief description I would rather see it in the hands of someone with experience.

I'd love to say you are probably wrong, but I agree with this

It would be great to see another Spawn movie. At one point I was a pretty big fan. Live action, or animated... But not a new re-envision of Spawn that makes him a "shadow" (at least imo).

Somewhere, in a box, I still have maybe the first 90 or so issues of the comic and a few spin offs (they are from years ago, I have no idea if the series is still going, and if it is what issue number it's at). Maybe something has changed dramatically in the last few years in the spawn universe?

Because from those issues, if he wanted to go that "real world" direction - Make a Sam and Twitch movie with cameo(s) from Spawn.

Spawn doesn't exist in a "real world", think Departed, kind of way. He's a soldier of hell, which sorta screams supernatural/metaphysical to begin with, at least, in my book.

I would rather see a great story turn into a great movie. I don't care if its small or big budget. Just please dont make me feel like I wasted 2 hours of my life.

Don't really care if there is another Spawn movie or not. McFarlane isn't really as good as he think he is. If they are going to do one, they need a good director with good writers. A Spawn movie with very little Spawn is like a Batman movie with very little Batman. What would be the point?

McFarlane's role should only be as creative consultant. He's not good with writing. He's an artist, plain and simple. His success came from artwork and luck with some characters that he created and his toy company. A writer, McFarlane is not.

Default Mcfarlane Starts Writing New Spawn Movie

Hey,

Well it looks like he began writing the film, yet nothing about whether the project going for a big budget/small one, or whose directing this one. The good news the new one will be targeting older audience (R-Rating)

Quote:
"Spawn" creator Todd McFarlane has announced that he has officially begun writing the screenplay for a new movie based on the character.

"The story has been in my head for 7 or 8 years," McFarlane said. "The movie idea is neither a recap or continuation. It is a standalone story that will be R-rated. Creepy and scary."

He added that "the tone of this 'Spawn' movie will be for a more older audience. Like the film 'Departed.'"

In August of 1997, New Line released a Spawn movie that grossed $87.8 million worldwide. It starred Michael Jai White, John Leguizamo and Martin Sheen.

Enjoy.

there's nowhere else to go but up. The first movie was one of the worst movies ever made, save John Leguazamo's performance as The Clown. The CGI was awful, and Spawn spends the majority of the movie without his mask on and no cape. He also pets a puppy.

that said, Spawn is one of my all time favorite comic book characters, and I love the storyline. This can be very cool if done right. Just no Michael Jai White, and please ease up on the guns. I want to see magic blasts coming from his hands, and KEEP THE MASK ON.

I think Mcfarlane was the same writer for the first, not sure. but if he is the same writer then you should expect somewhat similar materials to what you have seen in '97 version.

I guess we have to wait and see.

Not sure what he has in mind, but hiding Spawn is ridiculous. One of the very best things about the first movie was Spawn's cape as it seemed to have a mind of its own. I don't know, seems like the guy doesn't know what people want, just what he wants. I guess he'll just have to learn the hard way, but then spawn will be dead.

Follow the lead of Batman Begins, start over and show us more of spawn in hell...

I love the idea of bringing Spawn back, but what is McFarlane trying to do with this? He's been thinking about the story for 7 or 8 years, and he's just now starting to write it? And why does he mention "The Departed" again? I hope he's not going to turn Spawn into a South Boston cop movie.... I think many Spawn fans would agree that the 1997 release had a lot of potential with the characters and story, just didn't execute it very well.
