I got a job at a video store.
I was able to find cheap Previously viewed DVD's that were in perfect or near perfect condition and that's what got the ball rolling. Logan |

1. An intense dislike for late fees.
2. An intense dislike for the rental store not having the movie available that I want to watch. 3. The cost of going to the theater with the wife and the crappy picture, sound, and environment that the theater provides. 4. The ability to choose the movie I watch while wearing just a pair of boxers. 5. Watching my friend's jaws drop when I suggest they go around the corner and pick out a movie. ![]() |

Not really sure truthfully. When I was younger I probably had around 40 VHS tapes, although a lot of those were Disney movies. I bought a DVD player in 1998 at age 16 and started buying movies rather than renting, since that wasn't something you could usually do with VHS. I think the biggest factor may have been the high cost to rent DVDs at Blockbuster. For the first couple years I had a player they were the only place in town that had DVDs for rental, and the cost was $4.99 for 2 days. My thinking was I'd rather buy a movie for $17 than rent it for $4.99. I truly think if Redbox had been available back then I wouldn't have bought nearly as many DVDs.

I got hooked when I got my first job. I bought a new 21 inch tv for my room only and a dvd player in 2000. It wasn't cheap then but I loved it. I loved the look of the dvds looking at me at all times in my bedroom and I just always had to get more. Became more difficult to buy movies once I moved out on my own, but I think I have always done pretty well for myself all in all.

I never bought until dvd's started coming out. I never had the desire to own movies on vhs but dvd's changed that for me. The biggest reason is because I started to work at a franchise Blockbuster years ago. When I was able to get any movie I wanted for either free or around $5 it's a little hard to not start collecting
![]() Now I just love the look and sound of blu-ray, and although upgrading kinda sucks, it's easy to justify since I never really spent any money the first time around. |

A few VHS back in the day, a few DVDs - nothing that could be considered as collecting. Since Blu-ray, I am buying more discs than ever. Since the newer player software(s) now do an excellent job of upconversion, DVDs are even more appealing. I would have to say because of Sony and Cyberlink. |
