You wonder though if the fact that MISSION TO MARS being Region B locked -- specific to the French market and nowhere else -- was the reason for the imposed subtitles.

At least you can move them nearly off the picture with an Oppo, though if you don't they are squarely on the image.

Got to see this finally. Fortunately I have a Panasonic, so can shift subs offscreen.

Great movie. Never seen it before. The disc looks and sounds great too. Shame it hasn't been released wider yet.

One of my guilty pleasure films so this post has made my week! find it interesting that they are listing an alternative ending on the special features of the film. that was listed on the DVD version but never materialised and I've never heard of anything since.

I have the Studio Canal German mediabook release and the subtitles are NOT forced. It's quite nice looking also compared to the region 1 DVD.
