Default Samsung BD P1600

I bought mine on May 9 here in Toronto for just under
$260. plus taxes.

The player works fine and was easy to set up. It is truly
plug-and-play. An HDMI to my Sharp 1080p TV and RCA
connectors to the stereo is all that it took to get the thing
working.

Surprisingly, on Tuesday last, the audio would not start and
a call to Samsung Canada elicited the suggestion to turn off
the power and turn it on about 10 seconds later.

Lo and behold, it worked!

I do have one problem and it deals with jpeg pictures.
When I start a slide show, it gradually increases to the
next speed and the pictures are now going too fast.
I have to adjust downwards the playback speed and
nobody can seem to find anything to pin down the playback
speed.

Perhaps when the next download becomes available, there could
be a solution to the problem--unless someone out there has had
the same problem with the 1600 and can share a solution.

Otherwise, all in all, it's quite a satisfactory playback device.

Hi everyone,

I bought my Samsung 1600 about a week ago and paid $268.00 CDN plus tax. For where I live, that's a damn good bargain, believe me. Vancouver is the most expensive city in the western hemisphere so you can imagine my surprise when I got that price for it at my local mall without having to search for it online.

Anyway, you're absolutely right: easy hookup, no problems.

I'm enjoying the amazing picture quality. I haven't tried any of the fancy online stuff yet, but it seems pretty user friendly.

Just an FYI,

The sale on this player (the Samsung BD-P1600) at amazon is good 'til May 30th, not May 31st. They also have several titles for $12.99 as part of the 4 movies to buy to get the $125.00 discount. With four cheap titles, this blu-ray player comes out to $124.00 total (Player+movies=$175.96, then subtract 4x$12.99 for the movies).

Yesterday I received this player from the amazon deal and I'm very happy with it. It is my first Blu-ray player and the picture quality is excellent.

has anyone tried playing new movies with this player? I'm a bit wary since a few Amazon customers left comments how they couldnt play newer films like Quantum of Solace and they needed a firmware update, but Samsung hasnt come up with one yet.

I find that hard to believe as I have played every single movie put in my BD-P2500, including QoS.

I believe you. I just think either those customers got defective players (highly unlikely, but for the benefit of the doubt...), or they have no idea how to operate a Blu-Ray player. I remember when I got my 1400, it was from Sound Advice, and the salesman said it was open-box because the customer complained how it wouldnt play any movies, it was a piece of junk, blah blah blah and left the store pissed off. The salesman did a firmware update on the spot and I took it home for $125 bucks that same day. I've had it ever since and its worked just fine.

question....this player decodes DTS-MA and TrueHD....if I have a receiver that doesnt decode those, will I still get those formats because the player supports them?

Yes if your receiver has HDMI (audio) inputs.

Hey guys....lurker here - finally decided to sign up!

I ordered the BDP1600 from Amazon since they had the promo running. My total for the player and 4 BD movies was just under $200. Really happy with that! It was my final order on my trial of Amazon Prime so it was sent via 2-day shipping.

My 1600 is super loud. When you put your head down by it is making a loud ticking noise that sounds like a clock in it and a really bad grinding noise all the time.

I've read so many good reviews of this unit, but probably an equal number of poor reviews. Keeping my fingers crossed that mine will be ok....it's my first BD player.

I purchased my 1600 w/4 $12.99 titles from Amazon during their promotion and so far every movie from my collection that I've put in it has played flawlessly. As far as the noise from the player, I can honestly say I can not hear it. Also, I have the 1500 and after watching one movie it is very hot to the touch (I have it well ventilated too BTW). With the 1600, the most I've watched in one sitting is 3 movies and it "feels" like it did when first turned on (yes, it has a cooling fan - so I've heard), that's just awesome. Oh yeah, the loading time on the 1600 is ridiculously lightning fast - at least compared to my 1500! It's almost like having the speed of a SD DVD player that's able to play BR movies....just awesome.

Same here. Just got my 1600 in the mail last week....the difference between this and the 1400 is astounding. Lightning fast load times, the disc tray opens up MUCH faster (took damn near forever with the 1400), and it may just be my eyes but the picture looks a little sharper. I loved my 1400, but after experiencing the 1600, I dont know how I went all these months without it lol

oh and my 1600 is quiet as a church mouse as well.

I have 1.17 installed on my EU 1600, although there is a new 1.02 update on samsung uk's site. Isn't 1.02 a step backwards?
