Watched this earlier. Cracking film but I honestly don't know why I've read some people referring to it as a "horror comedy". Wut?

Some people don't know what a horror/comedy is. None of the horror elements in IT were supposed to be funny.

Horror is subjective though... I thought Georgie getting killed at the beginning was funny but intense. I'm an odd one though, a lot of horror elements make me laugh

Maybe it's just my sick mind, but I enjoyed seeing
[Show spoiler]Patrick's demise
during my initial viewing. Does that count as a comedic moment despite being a horrific scene?

Personally when I watch an adaptation of a book I know very well it’s hard for me not to fill in the gaps. I didn’t even realize there was no dam building scene in the movie until my third viewing. It’s interesting to hear what some people think of this adaptation when they don’t know the source material.

I walked out of the theater talking to my wife about the ritual of chud and ITs origins. Part 1 really dropped the ball in my opinion by not giving us a smoke hole sequence and atleast some attempt at putting its macroverse origins on screen. They could have done it in a way that didn’t attempt to over explain everything, kind of like how they did the deadlights in pennywises mouth. I’m really hoping that somehow they get this in part 2.

Part 1 might not have been the most faithful adaptation but even with my minor quibbles I was still very impressed with how it turned out in spite of all the changes.

I can only imagine they are referring to the kid’s dialogue which is amusing in places.

Blame WB. Andy really, really wanted to do that but WB wouldn't allow it.

I can't be bothered making yet another digital movie account, so here's the "Movies Anywhere" code that came with my 4K copy for whomever gets to it first. Enjoy.

I wouldn't call it a horror comedy, but I felt there was too much comedy in the movie and that it was inserted in the wrong places taking away from some of the scarier and more tense moments.

Even the scariest movies can have some well placed humor that's effective in getting the audience to let it's guard down in order to deliver a well placed scare. IT had Richie delivering funny one-liners right in the middle or right after some of the scarier moments in the movie which quickly took away from the moment. I liked the character early in the movie when we're getting to know the kids, but in the 2nd half of the movie he just had to be funny during every scary moment which just killed the atmosphere for me.

I did a search, but couldn't find anything.

I found a cheap used copy of the series blu-ray and decided to buy it for nostalgia's sake, as I remember watching it as a kid and being terrified by it.

Unfortunately, childhood nostalgia can sometimes be shattered by reality, when enough time goes by.

This is not nearly as good as I remembered.

Even the clown isn't nearly as scary as I remember from my nightmares.

...it's unfortunate.
I saw it on UK tv last night. I last watched it as a child many moons ago. Back then it seemed almost epic, but last night I was underwhelmed. I haven't read the book yet, so I'm not sure whether the TV show or the new film are faithful to the source material, but I definitely enjoyed the characterisation and overall flair and imagination of the film. The same scenes in the TV show seemed humdrum in comparison. It was still pretty enjoyable, and it was ultimately a fairly modest TV show.

Wonder when they'll announce the director's cut. Can't wait to re-watch it again with new scenes added.

I also wonder how Blu-Ray/DVD sales were for the initial release. WB must be a little disappointed that the director spilled the beans about the director's cut, as that must have hurt sales a little.

I don't think it will hurt too bad. The majority of sales are usually from the general public. Essentially people who don't geek out on sites and probably never heard anything about a Director's Cut.

The one and only deleted scene I've seen so far is the alternate ending, which I wish was the real theatrical ending, because it ended the movie so much better than the theatrical ending did. That last shot of the sewer as the rain starts to fall and then fade to black... Perfect!
