Carlito's Way: Rise to Power
Channels
Evening
Half Baked
The Hitcher (2007)
The Pianist (is this with StudioCanal now?)
The River
White Noise 2
White Noise 2 was just released by Mill Creek as a double feature with Rosewood Lane under it's alternate title White Noise: The Light.

You forgot The War (1994).

Channels was released by Vanguard, not Universal.

(And before someone else mentions it, The Getaway (1994) was released on HD-DVD by Universal, but the rights are now with Warner).

Hmm. Is there a way of knowing what's out of stock? It didn't seem like anything I ordered was out of stock.

I dont think there is anyway to tell. You may have to call their 1 800 number to find out.

I note that copyright expirations have finally started to move forward again. Would you please comment how this does/does not make acquisitions by KL any easier?

(By expirations, I meant that anything copyrighted 1923 or earlier expired in 2019. The copyright for anything copyrighted in 1924 or earlier expired in 2020. I admit that films in the 1920s were silent, but it's still a valid question. It will be interesting when movies copyrights from the 1930s start expiring.)

Just trying to do my part to get away from "do you have" or "does <insert studio> have" questions. And I'm genuinely interested.

Thanks in advance.
We're not a PD company waiting for titles to become Public Domain, so we could care less about copyright expiration. You still need to deal with the studio to get access to the needed and best film elements. So even if a film is PD, it would still require a deal between our label and the studio.

The PD labels could of course release these films once the film's copyright expires, but it would most likely be from a print.

We announced Hollywoodland which was an HD-DVD release. The Pianist is with Studiocanal and another label. We currently have 2 of these, maybe more later.

I'm hoping one of them is Half Baked. Pretty surprised this never got a Blu-ray before.

I'm guessing the other label is Criterion with the Pianist.

I think one is almost certainly The River, since they have 5 titles from 1984 and there are only 6 candidates. I'd be very surprised if that was the one to miss out.

Given the yearly breakdowns, the other will be one of these:

The War
Half Baked
Balls of Fury/The Hitcher/Evening (only 1 title from 2007 in any case)

I don't think it will be The Hitcher since the Insider mentioned having a 2010s horror when I asked if they had any 2000s horror (suggesting they don't have any from the 2000s). Also, Balls of Fury seems unlikely. The 1990s titles seem stronger bets.

"Half-Baked" is the all-time stoner comedy IMO. Anyone who went to college between 2000 and 2010 probably saw that movie ten times just by accident. I actually had a guy in my freshman dorm that we nicknamed Chris "Gravity Bong in the Morning" Cook who was disturbingly similar to Steven Wright's The Guy on the Couch. The guy was ALWAYS in bed, always baked. He would do the nice move of hitting a gravity bong first thing in the morning before class, thus removing any desire he had to go to said class. If you're familiar with gravity bongs, the idea of hitting one before you have to do something remotely important is unbelievably hilarious.

I just finished watching THE SWEENEY, the first feature on the Kino double feature with SWEENEY 2 that was released last week. Anyone who was thinking they might want to get this, BUY IT. It was so much fun. I've never seen the TV show, but after watching the first movie I placed an order with Amazon for Series Three (I usually hate the first season of most shows, so I start in the middle). The first movie is violent, sexy, inappropriate, and totally dated. Everyone smokes, drinks, and walks on orange-patterned carpet, or shag carpet, or has bathroom walls with weird blue 1970s designs on them, or has a horrible 1970s haircut, or looks like they fell out of the 'Sabotage' video. The movie has scenes that are shocking, surprising, and unexpected. It is FUN. I listened to the commentary track for the film and knew I wanted to buy one of the TV seasons, and they're all inexpensive on Amazon. Can't wait to watch SWEENEY 2 while trying to avoid the coronavirus!

SOLD. You had me at violent, sexy, inappropriate and dated but then the orange pattern and shag carpets put it over the top.

We saw Half Baked in the theatre and it was at the same time Spice World debuted in Canada, that was an interesting mix of crowds.

Lot of people throw around “day 1” on here, but if Half Baked gets released, Day 1.
