Bull Moose is a great place and I also love buying from them, though geography makes it online only. Patronizing KINO directly or Bull Moose or other similar outlets is key. I don’t care if my order hasn’t shipped in five days, for chrissakes. If a person becomes so adamantly opposed to a seller based on that, then take your business to Amazon, put your money where your mouth is and shut up.

For me, it’s VERY important now to support smaller retailers, not just for physical media obviously, but for everything. With people now afraid of their own shadow and staying home, and B&M stores reporting massive shortages, Amazon will become even more powerful and monopolistic. If we still have a future, besides Charlton Heston driving around machine gunning mutants, we sure don’t want one where Amazon wields anymore control than they already have.
Amazon has spoiled people. This thing where they move and heaven and earth (and shit all over the environment in the process) to deliver stuff the very next day has given people skewed priorities about how long it takes to get stuff to them.

You'd think that people with blu-ray collections numbering in the thousands would find other ways to occupy their time instead of kvetching over an order that hasn't shipped yet.

Great! I want both of these. Curse of the Undead is great "western" vampire flick.

After they are both placed into storage at a repair factory, Val Com 17485 and Aqua Com 89045, two humanoid robots played by Andy Kaufman and Bernadette Peters, strike up a conversation and develop a mutual attraction based on data-based intrigue. Val, who is programmed as a valet, is configured for impersonal logic, while Aqua, who is programmed as a companion with conversational skills intended to establish rapport with humans, is inclined to notice beautiful sunsets or emotional affinity. With Catskill, a robot stand-up comedian voiced by Jack Carter, in tow, the futuristic couple decides to escape into the surrounding wilderness. As two human factory employees, played by Randy Quaid and Kenneth McMillan, take up pursuit, Val and Aqua create a mechanical “child” of sorts in the form of Phil, a crudely-assembled small robot voiced by Jerry Garcia. Danger lies in the path of our automated protagonists, however, because a fiercely-dedicated law enforcement unit, Crimebuster, is driven by a strict adherence to order to detain them.

Despite its undeniably impressive makeup work by Stan Winston, who was nominated for an Academy Award, the 1981 sci-fi romantic comedy, Heartbeeps, was greeted by abysmal reviews and disappointing box office returns, leading Kaufman to apologize to the public for the movie while guesting on Late Night with David Letterman. Indeed, from the perspective of scrutiny from my adult perspective, this flawed outing, helmed by director Allan Arkush, moves at a snail's pace despite its short 78-minute run time, thanks to aimless banter between the heavily-costumed actors, to endless terrible jokes from the Catskill character, and to plot mechanics that never quite lift off of the ground.

When I first saw this movie on HBO during the early 1980s at the age of 10, however, my childhood self, who was preoccupied with the infectious spirit of optimism for computer innovation that was prevalent during that era, was charmed and even somewhat awed. In order to understand why any viewer could possibly find any semblance of excitement with Heartbeeps, one must take a mental stroll into the way back machine to the time of its release, when Star Wars was new and fresh, when synth-pop bands were making waves with brittle computerized melodies, and when we were all convinced that we would be living among intricate robot beings and spaceships in just a matter of years. To quote a Simple Minds song from back in the day, that was an age where, "Everything is possible.” A story about robots falling in love hit the sweet spot with many a youngster like me back then. Then again, maybe it was just me.

At any rate, my own programming prohibits me from giving this one a bad review simply because of its nostalgic appeal and because, even now, I love the trip down memory lane. I still love Val and Aqua, I still love the makeup effects, and, most of all, I still love Crimebuster, whose duty is to protect the community on land, on sea, and in the air.

Besides, it's impossible for me to write off a movie that features guest appearances from Roger Corman stalwarts Dick Miller, Paul Bartel, and Mary Woronov.

Thank God for electronics, and thank Kino Lorber for bringing this maligned rough gem to high definition life, complete with a pleasant presentation and a commentary track with the director, who holds no opinions back as to why the main future does not compute with most audiences.

KLI, is this from Universal or did ITV gain US rights? The now long OOP Anchor Bay DVD was under licence from Universal, and it hasn't recently appeared on any streaming service in the US.

Granada did a 2k remaster in 2006 from the OCN, which was used for the UK ITV Blu (with lossy 2.0 and 5.1 DD audio) and later ported over for Networks BD (with extras and lossless 5.1 and 2.0 PCM).

I suspect this may be from ITV since they possess original elements and the OCN, but prove me otherwise. If this came from Universal and KL says their 4k transfer is new, then they may have ported over a new 4k restoration recently performed by ITV as their previous one was 2k. Going by the AB DVD using an anamorphic transfer ported over from UK rightsholder Carlton (as it opened with the Rank Gongsman), I suspect Universal doesn't have any good film elements within their possession and worked with the UK rights holders for this one.

For anyone who is so impatient for their order to ship, here’s a solution: I believe all KINO titles are available at Amazon. Join Amazon Prime for $99. Order all the KINO titles you want at full price. Select 2 day shipping or, even better, pay an extra fee for 1 or same day shipping, if it’s available. Then you don’t have to wait very long at all for all your prized orders to ship. Problem solved! You’re welcome.

Its cool.

The next time it even runs through my mind to complain about an order, I’ll make sure to kind of run it by you guys to make sure you approve. Problem solved. Hopefully we’re good now.

That said, I should have paid closer attention to the availability of the item before I placed my order. So at the end of the day, I’m to blame. Oh well.

Superb news. This makes my week. One of the great spy thrillers of the 60s which IMO is right up there with the early 007 films.

I've weaned myself off Amazon last year and ended up cancelling my Prime last year. Their packaging has really gone downhill, you can't get MOD BDs on launch date, and the smaller retailers like BullMoose and others package with so much care and treat you as family. I have so many titles that its not a big deal if my package takes a while to get here as I have plenty of movies in my queue to watch that I will be lucky if I finish it by the year 2525. Rather give my money to the site stores and the small retailers since they care and really go that extra mile when compared to Amazon.

+ If you have a bunch of pre-orders with varying release dates, they hold them all and ship them complete, in a box. Do the same thing with Amazon you get 5 separate shipments in 5 environmentally unfriendly bubble mailers - non-recyclable and only useful keeping for when you need to return something. Probably the 5 crushed Blu-rays sent in the bubble mailers.

Like most of Rank's bigger budgeted pictures of the 60s (Heroes of Telemark, The Long Duel, The Quiller Memorandum, etc), it was a co-production with a US studio where Rank took international rights and their partner - in this case Universal - took the US. Under these contracts both parties usually had access to the OCN to create their own IPs. In the past ITV has shown no interest in sharing costs with the US rightsholders on any of these co-productions, which is why Twilight Time's The Quiller Memorandum is beautifully remastered by Fox while the UK Blu from material provided by ITV looks like a snowstorm in a street with flickering streetlights and also why Sony's Heroes of Telemark is a so-so older transfer that's an improvement on the poor UK one but still too dark and from a very dated master (ITV reportedly refused to go halves on a full restoration and the numbers didn't make sense for Sony to pay for it entirely themselves just for the US).

I admire your decision. I've contemplated doing the same, but hard given some of the unique content like The Grand Tour, and Hunters - which I'm about to start watching.

The "2 Day" shipping isn't really a big selling point for me, and the packaging is completely hit or miss these days. But it's just so damn convenient to shop there.

So to Kino I must confess...

Kino's not only killing it with the KLSC line, they're also churning out a ton of great stuff with the American Film Theatre releases (I highly recommend checking out some of those if you haven't) as well as a lot of fantastic foreign/arthouse films. Their output in recent years has really been an incredible treasure trove for collectors.

Kino’s generic and aesthetically dull spine font/art for the Studio Classics line is the only complaint I have and the one thing I wish they’d change
