They might as well go forward with that "Jurassic Planet" idea they had a while back at this point and have them do dinosaurs in outer space.
Just curious. Ever read the original Crichton books?

Yes, loved the original book. The Lost World has been so long, I honestly can't even remember what I thought of it, other than it was almost nothing like the second film.

I really enjoyed the stalker feel of the finale. Fallen Kingdom wasn't bad at all.

It's a shame that most YouTube critics simply don't get it. Doug Walker, in his infinite stupidity, sees all dinosaurs as monsters, no matter what their diet actually is, and he saw the tragic Brachiosaurus death scene as too jarring of a tonal shift, since we were supposed sorry for the dinosaurs after we were already just afraid of them attacking the people. He even joked about it! How heartless can you GET?

I liked it. It's a goofy JP3 style dino adventure followed by a goofy dinosaur romp in a haunted mansion. Like I said with JP3, I think people want these movies to be more than that because of the first film's iconic status, but I take things as they are.

If I may add my 2 Cents.
I like JP3, but it feels more like a spin-off movie than JP proper.
The one scene that has always rubbed me the wrong way is when Neil's character dreams on the plane prior to landing, the raptor should absolutely be the old design, as he had never seen the new one, so that doesn't make an iota of sense, and really takes me out of the movie.
I think there is a lot to like though, it's funny, has a wonderful cast, some new cool dinos and the Spinosaurs Egypticus and the Pteranodons are truly awesome. However, the fight between the T-Rex and Spino is way too short, but then again, it was the point they were trying to make.
Anyway, for me it's a
JP3 4/5
JP 4.8/5 (The jungle in the T-Rex territory that magically becomes a cliff is a huge deal though)
TLW (Used to hate it. Find it really humorous and exciting now) 4/5
JW 4/5
JW FK 3.8/5 (Have to rewatch it to make up my mind. I didn't care for the direction it was taking...)

There was an interview with Laura Dern many years ago, back when JP4 was still stuck in development hell. It's stayed with me because of what she said about Spielberg, how they'd been talking about this (then) upcoming film and the direction of the series. She said he'd always envisioned this franchise to be essentially that; dumb, fun dinosaur romps. Not in those exact words, but that was the spirit, and he wanted this new trilogy to fully embrace that.

I think that's exactly why these movies are made the way they are. Certainly with someone of Spielberg's stature watching over this franchise and pulling strings in the background, if he wanted the Jurassic sequels to be super serious, smart sci-fi thrillers, he could make it happen. But this is what we're getting, with his approval.

The signs were there from the start, really. A large part of what may elevate the first film is the Crichton influence. But even there in the beginning, it's a - I hesitate to say "dumbed down", but certainly a heavily simplified and streamlined version of the story told in the novel. It became a lighthearted, family-friendly adventure film - and a smash hit thanks to that. The more the sequels kept moving away from Crichton, the more the "dumb fun" element has taken over, and they've remained hugely successful.

Spielberg is a savvy businessman, and he's shown himself to be just as much - if not more - about the money as the art. Is this what he thinks the Jurassic franchise should be for the sake of the "art", or because he knows it's going to rake in more cash this way? Who knows, I'd guess maybe a bit of both, but either way big-budget B-movies is what he wants, so it's what we'll get. And as you say, I've found it easy to embrace the films for what they are. Nothing wrong with a diet that includes both artful films with something to say, and dumb but entertaining schlock.

Well JP ranking time again, and with the release of Battle at Big Rock

Jurassic Park - 10/10
The Lost World Jurassic Park - 10/10
Jurassic Park 3 - 7/10
Jurassic World - 10/10
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - 10/10
Battle at Big Rock: A Jurassic World Short - 10/10

I pretty much love what they give us with these films, and I've even slowly grown to like the third more and more.

I have to say, the strengths of these movies, the biggest thing for me as that the movies are utterly arresting every time a dinosaur comes on screen. Say what you will about the humans being the heart of the films, the dinosaurs are the souls.

The JP dinosaurs are so arresting, that I can't look at other dinosaur movies without thinking what a certain scene would be like in the JPverse. And the other studios seem to think this as well because outside of direct-to-video fodder and the occasional documentary, there really aren't that many non JP blockbuster dinosaur movies.

Much, MUCH worse. Like literally every single original movie released on Syfy. Like many direct-to-video movies Lionsgate released in the mid 00s on Blockbuster shelves, like most of Asylum's catalog. Like literally cheaply made horror movie that pops up on Prime Video (like seriously some movies on the service must have cost 200 dollars to shoot and put together) of which there are countless.

If you want an example of absolutely racid island horror watch Pinata: Survival Island.

I think that's my problem right there and it's something I don't like in general when they do that. It is different to me, too different actually. And yeah, it really has some stupid parts in it.

I thought that the opening scene was excellent but afterwards it all quickly went downhill for me. Some very annoying characters are introduced and the turn the story took regarding the house/auction just didn't work for me. It all felt very different and not like a JP movie to me at all, very awkward at times and I also didn't like the humor in this one (that small headbutting dinosaur was awful). But more importantly, the atmosphere and excitement of the previous movies was nowhere to be found here.

A shame since I really like Jurassic World, that was a great movie! I was hoping for a continuation of that so I had high hopes for the sequel. Now with the ending of Fallen Kingdom in mind, I don't have any hopes for the next one...

Recently I have decided to go through my collection again to see what movies I won't be watching anymore (I'm out of shelf space), Fallen Kingdom (both 3D and 4K) will be one of the first to go.

So, I finished watching the UHD of JP today (on my 1080p 50inch Kuro at a distance of about 5.4ft/165cm), and I think it looks pretty darn good overall....However, most scenes with CGI dinos seem to be DNR'd to kingdom come and heavily processed, such as the Gallimimus sequence, and the end fight. Luckily, the night scenes with the T-Rex look great and unscathed.
I compared the affected scenes with the BD, and they are definitely DNR'd as well, but it's just way more apparent on the UHD. Other than that, I only found objectionable DNR at the beginning of the Dogson meet fat guy scene, and one other instance. The waves hitting the shore looks like stock footage to me, but the shot leading up to it, a panning shot of the Triceratops looks very iffy too.
I only detected some minor banding during the "life always finds a way" scene (the projector light beam). Is that visible on HDR screens as well?
I honestly don't know why they DNR'd the hell out of the CG scenes. They couldn't have looked any worse, right? Anyway, all in all I am pleased with the result, although the DNR'd scenes did sadden me, especially the last couple of shots of the finale, but it's much better than the BD IMHO.
One thing I noticed (Oppo 203), but couldn't replicate a 2nd time, was some weird echoing and panning of the T-Rex roars in the surrounds during the first attack scene. Did anyone else experience it?
The kitchen sequence is fantastic in terms of surround placement.

Did your player down convert the 4K disc to 1080p?

My guess would be that it’s more apparent because the effects may have been rendered at a lower resolution? I mean, they still stand up rather well for the most part, but the age does show.

They won’t. Universal have nothing but disdain for their customers and their own material when it comes to home viewing.

It’s a wonder they even bothered to remaster that atrocious original Gladiator BD - they caved into the customers on that, a ‘mistake’ they show no signs of making again.

Whenever a new Jurassic Park movie comes out, it's not necessary to wait for a new boxset, and rebuy it all over again. When the individual 4K of the movie is released, just buy it and add it the your existing boxset because, it doesn't make sense to keep selling your current boxsets, when a new movie comes out. Beside you'll be wasting money!

By continuation of Jurassic world how do you mean ? The park was destroyed and left abandoned what would be a natural continuation to that movie there is none the franchise has to move into the fallen kingdom territory like it or not Jurassic world 3 will be at least more natural in the story hopefully rather than dumb decisions like we have to go back to this really dangerous island and get stuck again that plaques this franchise badly
