Lost World was my first highly anticipated movie that actually left me feeling very bummed out. The way nearly all of In-gen's entire expedition was wiped out thanks to our 'heroes' really left a bad impression. There are only two things I liked about this movie and it was John Williams soundtrack and David Koepp getting eaten alive by the T-Rex (All while being credited as the 'Unlucky Bast&*$').

Seriously! To me, that was the great unanswered possibility presented by the first film—what if, instead of us coming to them, they came to us (which is why I am so stoked for the next JURASSIC WORLD entry).

Yeah, never understood the hyperbolic hatred for the gymnastics bit and the San Diego ending. The first time we meet Kelly, we find out she's really good at gymnastics but got cut from the team. All she did was swing on a bar and use her momentum to kick the raptor; seemed like a pretty standard move for anyone with even basic gymnastic training, and a logical move to make when the situation presented itself. As for the ending, the 1925 Lost World ended with a dinosaur rampaging through London. Even as a kid I thought it was a nice homage to the classic.
Now, JPIII was the first movie I saw as a kid that genuinely made me angry and question my entire existence. Looked cheap and terrible, awful characters, the most annoying kid in the series, turned into a short B monster movie, killed the T-Rex, ruined Grant and Ellie, and had the dumbest wtf ending imaginable. And yet, much like the prequels, it seems to have experienced a perplexing renaissance in fan opinion in recent years. |

Agreed on JPIII as well. Fallen Kingdom was dumb, but the third movie set the bar so low that it really didn’t sting as badly as it would have otherwise. Entertaining as a chase movie, sure, but just because it goes down easy doesn’t mean that it’s not the emptiest calories this franchise has to offer. A McDonald’s hamburger to the steaks of the first two films, if you will. And yes, naysayers can quote me on that. |

I’ve always thought of Spielberg as a master of set-pieces more than a great storyteller (he doesn’t have the yarn-spinning talents of Frank Darabont or Rob Reiner) and the way he handles the action scenes is genius. Goldblum trying to evade that raptor is incredible. The way it interacts with the glass, or door, or car - whatever he uses to protect himself with. Using tangible objects and shooting at night to hide any CGI imperfections just gives it a realism that even today’s films can’t match. The film’s a PG and it frightens more than most 18-rated horrors. You’d hope we’d have seen some protégés of Spielberg/Coppola/Scorsese/Lynch by now but nobody comes even close. They’re in their 70’s and still more exciting and inventive than newer generations. The Irishman has me wetting myself with anticipation and it’s basically a bunch of pensioners having another go ![]() |

Is the 4-movie set of this really thick? I didn't care for Fallen Kingdom so I'd be fine with upgrading the series without it, but I don't want a massive thick set on my shelf. It looks like the 5-disc is pretty thin but I can't get a good photo of the 4-discer.

I don't really like those movies either, to be fair. Also I would probably like the San Diego section more if it didn't feel rushed and tacked-on to a different movie (IMO).

I do agree that it feels tacked on. The transitioning from Isla Sorna to San Diego is really jarring.

I would probably never watch LOST WORLD again if it weren't for the San Diego sequences. And the "ghost ship" emerging out of the fog and slamming mysteriously into the San Diego dock is TOTALLY my type o' scene. LOVE that.

I actually liked The Lost World a little less (and, funnily enough, JPIII more) after reading the books.
The Lost World movie is just... completely (well, like 98% completely) different from the book. Why ask Crichton to write a sequel so you could make a movie on it if you’re not gonna follow the source material? JPIII on the other hand had some stuff from the books that didn’t make it into the first movies which I appreciated. |
