You're probably right, but both sets of caps were captured under the same conditions and, in direct comparison, the separate distinctions are strong enough to consider them much different-looking releases as a whole. But yeah, you'd think a new scan/restoration would have been advertised prominently.

I didn't and probably won't at this point, but it certainly seems so to me. Even so it's not nearly as noticeable as the definite downmix for The Road Warrior -- the boosted/added effects on those tracks frequently drove me up the wall. Incidentally (and frustratingly), most/all of the multiple foreign dubs on that disc were not downmixes and you can actually hear the distant engines and sirens rather than just hurricane-grade gusts of wind.

Fair enough, I'm just trying to cover my ass after repeatedly stating that the Warners 4K HDR transfer wouldn't be any different to what we've seen already, especially as the BD-era visuals were no different between the MGM, Warners and Shout discs (aside from the aliasing on the latter which is purely a mastering issue at Shout's end).

Though it's still not a "new scan/restoration", it's blatantly the same underlying restoration which is why there's no "announcement" to that effect, but with some very different takes on colour and especially black level in those caps - are they really as clipped as that on the Warners one?

Was this recalled then? I can no longer purchase on BBY.

Did the individuals get pulled as well? The Zavvi set is still up for PO.

It disappeared last night, as did the individual release for Mad Max 2. Since there is an audio error on Mad Max 2, possibly the sets were recalled for correction(?)

And yes, some places still have them for sale, but Amazon and Best Buy seem to have pulled them.

Thank you!

Was planning on getting the Zavvi set but now…no real way to know if it will ship with a corrected disc.

Yep. It does look a little dark in spots (especially the sax cap) but I do prefer the overall look in comparison to the overly bright and noisy Kino image.

I really don't think Thunderdome's 5.1 and 2.0 are downmixes. I don't know if they're legitimately original either, but there are definitely SFX in the Atmos that aren't there in the other tracks on the UHD.

Just speculating, but my best guess is still what I said in the Thunderdome thread: that the 5.1 on the standard Blu-ray was a remix using the original stems, and the 5.1 & 2.0 are essentially the OG mix (possibly from the 70mm six-track).

Yeah, I can't find the Steelbook or Anthology on BBY and it seems Sunrise Records posted a tweet about a recall on them as well.

Due to a manufacturing error, all copies of the new Mad Max releases, including the 4K collection and steelbooks have been recalled.

If you have purchased any of these items already, please contact us at customerservice@sunriserecords.com

Funny thing is I went into Best Buy today, two locations, thinking I could get info about this, but the same copies were on the shelf (of the steelbook and the regular set). I asked a stock manager about it and he said he hadn't heard of any recall. I was confused, but maybe they had just not yet gotten the word yet at these locations.

The plot thickens! It's quite surprising to have an actual recall due to this problem. And right after release too.

(Assuming that is what's happening, wouldn't be so sure until an official statement.)

I got my copy of the Anthology from Amazon.ca on Tuesday.

Recall, eh? I guess Warner is taking this one very seriously. No 'we'll quietly fix the next pressing job and replace it for anyone who asks' job.

Sunrise Records here in Canada has pulled this release for recall. I would assume all copies of steels and individual releases also in USA.

Yep and that's what I was thinking would happen. And good on them. So much for the whole "they'll never do anything" crowd

Too bad this couldn't have happened with the Batman box.

I'm not sure why they seem to possibly be recalling Thunderdome.

Wouldn't it be funny if they are recalling so they can simply blot out the offending audio claim on the packaging, and leave the disc as is?

Yep, I can confirm this is real! Looks like they took the one from Argo (since that already has a 4k HDR master to cull from). Odd since the prior BD reused MGM's HD master with their lions intact and the AIP still follows afterwards (which wasn't on 35mm international prints AFAIK).

I never said might, and now they are fixing it like I said they would.

Because, respectfully, like I said on Day 1, they care about their releases and errors made on them vs what they intended/advertised. See, you didn't need flaming pitchforks after all (which I said you didn't).

I'll refer you to my earlier reply to your comment. The one you chose to ignore in favor of responding to the same post you already responded to:

That to me does not demonstrate that they value their catalog, it demonstates exactly the opposite.

And again, what's the harm in sending them a polite email to make sure they're aware that there are disappointed consumers out there that are requesting a replacement? If you believe that a company will just spend the money to correct their mistakes out of the goodness of their heart, well then you have more faith in them than I do, but I'm not willing to take the risk that they'll address this on their own.

So wait, the Mad Max in the anthology is a different master than the 4K Kino just released?
