I got my shipping notice on my BTTF print. So with any luck I'll have two new Mondo prints next week! I've only told my wife about one of them however, now how to work the second one into casual conversation ![]() |

Did anyone go for Whalens 'Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving' earlier today?
I was contemplating it, wasn't sure if I would ever display it. Then I saw that there's also a Halloween and Christmas one! Might have to get all 3 now to rotate and display over Thanksgiving, Halloween and Christmas ![]() ![]() |

Guess Ill answer my own question in 5-10 days. By the way if you use a discount coupon on their website, don't pay with Paypal. It wont show up.
Also I am not using lightboxes so im not worried about single sided. Last edited by i007spectre; 10-03-2012 at 11:53 PM. |

I was looking for some Holiday themed posters for my light box and i was able to pick up this Home Alone original 27 X 40 for $10 shipped... It seemed kind of a cheap price for a 20+ year old popular movie....Did i just get lucky ? Does anyone know it's value..... There is some edge wear.... I am not selling this poster moderators i am just curious of the value........ .Thanks

More than likely in the one hour and four minutes between the time your first posting and second postings, there weren't any forum members here that were online to give you their thoughts. If you are looking for originals, avoid them. Some believe even their reproductions aren't officially licensed because generally a licensed reprint of a poster will be 24x36 inches in size but also have the companies name on them, such as Zig Zag, or Trend, etc. who get the license to produce a reprinted poster. With MoviePosterShop (and the various names they tend to sell under) I don't believe they have their company logo/title printed on them. There are some who believe they print their own posters using high resolution images pulled from the internet and elsewhere. But if you are looking to get into originals, I wouldn't recommend them. |

I probably could not afford originals. And reviews I have read say the moviepostershop ones look great. I will have to let you know, but I hope so.
On a side note this is not really a poster, but just something cool I picked up for free. ![]() Ignore the wad of cash! |

Now if it was me, and I was given a choice of an original studio-issued movie poster that potentially has the ability to appreciate in value over the years or paying the same amount or a little less for a reprint that has no collectibility value, and unknown if it is even a sanctioned licensed reprint, I think the choice is pretty clear cut. With regards to The Avengers, the reason why that particular style is so expensive, and hard to find, is because so few dealers were able to get them. Sure, you can go the eBay route and buy from someone with little to no experience in the poster industry, with regards to accurately describing condition, packaging, etc. or you can order through a dealer who specializes in originals (and reprints too) who generally get them in far better condition than movie theaters and are packaged by people who are used to shipping posters. Avengers had two styles released, there wasn't a demand for the first style (aka the advance) because frankly it was a boring poster with giant "A" on it. The final style that featured the cast was not only a nice looking poster (be it heavily Photoshopped) but was very difficult to find in near-mint/mint condition. On top of that, the huge success of the film made people scramble for any originals they could find, and now that it is clearly going to be a very successful franchise, demand will only get bigger for the first movie posters (in particular the final style) for the first film as the years go by. A great example of this is the first teaser poster for the first Iron Man film, which has now become virtually impossible to find in near-mint double-sided condition. Two versions of it were made, a glossy UV-coated version and a non-glossy one. The glossy one is the most sought after because it really makes Iron Man's helmet "pop" on the poster, but finding it is very difficult, thus, the prices go up, and they have big time, not only because of the rarity of the poster itself, but the success of both IM films, the huge success of The Avengers, the overall appeal of the long-standing character in comic book form, the third IM film due out next year, etc. I had noticed MoviePoster.com who happens to be a legit dealer of originals and reprints was sold-out of the advance style, but recently must have got a few, or at least one, in as featured on their site and their price has jumped up to $210 for it. The last price I recall them having it at was $75 just six months ago. They understand the rarity of that poster, the popularity of it, and the potential it is, and most collectors do as well. I feel their price is a tad bit high, but the price on it will only continue to increase, not decrease. They don't even specify if theirs happens to be the glossy version, if it is, they should state it, if it's not, had they had it, it probably would be listed for more. I am just glad I have some tucked away myself. ![]() But whenever possible, if you can afford it, and if the price is only a minor amount, it just makes more sense to go with an original over a reprint, you never know if you pick up a poster and it increases in price for various factors soon after. |
