The Avatar Blu-ray Release Thread

Ahhhh, I am such a loser!!!!

I finally gave in, well, after 4 days, and ordered the Blu-ray from Amazon, and I don't even really liked the movie.

I knew when I saw it in the theater that it was made to shine on BD, and
the visuals are great. I particularly liked the amazingly beautiful flora and the vistas.
Since I am a sucker for reference video, I just couldn't resist any longer.

I only wished the story and characters were actually any good.

As I mentioned a long time ago, I like the message, and for me, nothing can be too preachy, as I am a Nature photographer myself, but the characters are simply too 1-D, and the story is utterly predictable, but well, at least it's going to look good. Hopefully!

It's funny how things differ when you cross a border. I think Steelbooks look cool but I never wanted one. I don't even like slip covers, I throw them out as soon as I remove the plastic.

Hmm, how many years after the PT did Avatar come out???

James is definitely a perfectionist, I give you that, whereas for Lucas good is good enough.

I just watched, ok, tried to watch TPM on DVD today, couldn't because DVD sucks so bad, and I can't accept anything other than BD anymore, but I take Watto over those Cameron Blue aliens any day!

He looks completely real to me, and that's on DVD!

Anyway, the technology was really perfected by 2005, when ROTS came out.

In AOTC they had the flexible skin technique, in ROTS the translucency.

George Lucas always likes to push technology to the absolute limit.

He did it with ANH and with the PT. He always had to work with prototype technology.

They are working on them now, so we'll see. For the most part I think the PT looks darn fine as opposed to many other blockbusters that rely heavily on CGI.

Sorry, for getting side-tracked with SW in an Avatar thread, but you made the comparison, which is like comparing apples to oranges.

I watched the blu-ray and most of it was the best detail id ever seen but some bits surprisingly looked very soft and because the rest of it looked so good you noticed them straight away.The scene where weaver tells jake she dosent want him, the detail is amazing on him but she looks blurry thats probably because of the lighting as ive found HD looks best with plenty of light on the subject.The scene where the spotlight is shining on his avatars face is a wow moment.The Thanator looked blurry though too.Best picture quality ever though.I got that feeling again what i had when i first saw a blu-ray.

Definitely not the awful James Horner soundtrack.

Maybe I'll sell it again after having checked it out once.

At least I got ''The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and "Becoming Jane" along with it.

Update: OK, I just canceled Avatar. So, I didn't join the dark side after all. What a relief!

I just popped the DVD in..I feel sorry for those that watch this on DVD...it looks terrible. The movie was meant for HD not 480. It is disgusting on DVD..so pale.

I shamefully admit I may be a bit of a toe man....I couldnt get past the 3 fingers and the weird monkey like feet with opposible thumbs...she could shake your hand with her foot ! HOWEVER...that is one incredibly beautiful blue lady ! And she can fight !

PS...I know shes your wife and all...but I do prefer the version I see above...I think the blue version has a really big head...compared to ours ! Thats just me...
