Walt's films are very different from one another, even Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty have different tone.
I also disagree that the company didn't take risks after Walt's death. The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King were made under tight production schedule and they were the first to bring in the Broadway approach. I agree that the films that came afterwards tried to mimic the earlier ones, especially Beauty and the Beast (Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame) and Aladdin (Hercules), and even then they presented a variety of different characters (unlike the "Revival"). Before I talk about the revival I also want to mention the Post Renaissance as a time the company took risks, they never did something like TENG, Lilo and Stitch and Treasure Planet before. Those risks didn't pay off so people often don't give them credit for it Now the "Revival" (I really hate that name) was the time where Disney became just like the other studios, I disagree that the films are less homogeneous than the Renaissance. They follow the same exact formula about some sheltered innocent girl going on a road trip (here's where Disney became like Pixar) with a douchebag, and they make fun of past Disney films (here's where Disney became like DreamWorks). Even Wreck-It Ralph follows that formula only with the gender swapped. In addition unlike the Renaissance, the characters are very similar to one another. Look at Rapunzel, Anna, Honey Lemon and Judy in comparison to Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Esmeralda, Meg, Jane. |

This is definitely the truest the film has looked to its original theater presentation. I'm honestly thrilled by just how right they got the coloring. That was my big gripe with some of the past releases to the point that I would still watch my Little Mermaid Limited Issue DVD (from what.. 1999?) even after other releases because it was the most true to the original colors, grain, etc that I remembered from multiple viewings in theater and VHS as a kid. If movies are going to continued to be treated like this, count me in as a 4K believer.

Hi! While checking the new The Little Mermaid master, I've just come to realize that it's not colour accurate and I'm very unpleased with it. The most annoying issue is Ariel's fin, that turns into green again instead of the correct teal colour from the 2013 release
this new master is more related to the 2006 DVD than the 2013 Blu-Ray, and I just don't get it. The 2013 master was slightly washed, but it beared a more faithful color scheme 1999 DVD ![]() 2006 DVD ![]() 2013 Blu-ray ![]() 2018 Blu-ray ![]() |

Seriously? You're going to claim to know which fin color is more accurate to a 30-year-old theatrical presentation between these two images?
Any two given theatrical prints/projections probably had more color variance than these screenshots display! |

The bluish-green color of Ariel's mermaid tail was a hue specially mixed by the Disney paint lab; the color was named "Ariel" after the character.
