i write a review of Avatar, my buddy squid makes a humorous comment on it, and 5 pages later i catch up on this thread. ALL IN A FREAKIN' DAY.
all for... Avatar...

why don't people understand what OPINION means?
my favorite film of all time is Fight Club, but i know many people on here (and some people i discuss movies with on a general basis - looking at you surfdude & jhiggy ) don't like it. hell, i think both of them HATE IT. but do i constantly ask them to state reasons as to why they don't like it? no. why? because i don't care. i may ask them what they didn't like about the film, but that's it. it's their OPINION. i don't get all hot and bothered about it. even if it had a 99 on metacritic and 99% on RT i wouldn't get hot and bothered. who cares if someone else doesn't like what you like?

what happens to some of you Avatar die-hards if Cameron comes out in 10 years and says he think Avatar sucks? freak out and torch his house? calm down. it's a movie. which leaves people with their own personal score of it. some are high. some are low.

yes, a lot of people bought the BD. a lot of those could've been blind buys perhaps? that's what i did. and now i have sold it. so my sale still counts, but i didn't like it. and how many people just "thought it was okay"? their sale still counts. it seems like some of you think Avatar BD sale = everyone bought it thinks it's the best thing ever. not quite...

my biggest complaint with the movie (i think... i have a lot):
- i didn't care for any of the characters. i didn't connect with them. they weren't acted well and the writing certainly didn't help them with anything. so i was essentially watching a film where i didn't care what happened to the characters. so why would i like or care about this? i didn't. my OPINION. get used to it folks. everyone has one.

and to get this thread on track for my post

Cloverfield

if you can handle the shaky camera, you're in for a treat. i'm still trying to decide if i like that the central part of the film is a freakin'
[Show spoiler]love story
and this is after about 15 viewings... but it doesn't piss me off or anything like that. and while it would've been great to have the movie focus more on the creature, at 80+ minutes, it moves fast enough that the film doesn't linger on any story for too long.

my only major complaint is the camera man: Hud. annoyingly obvious cliche name, and says the dumbest things ever. i know, i know, he's the comedic relief, but his jokes seem forced and too dumb for a grown man.

fun, at times very creepy, and entertaining. great monster movie.

4.5/5

i know exactly what you mean. not for this film exactly (i've never seen it), but there's been quite a few films where i didn't have any complaints but just didn't justify giving it a 5/5

I'd get the "I <3 James Cameron" tattoo removed if that ever happened. Seriously though, I was one of the people actually staying neutral in the conversation even though I love Avatar, so I guess I could have just said nothing here.

[Show spoiler]I've never seen Fight Club.

Same here. If I think a film is really good I'll give it a 4/5 or 4.5/5, and if I LOVE it, it gets a 5/5

I know, I know. I've been wanting to see it since it came out on Blu-ray, but never have yet. Sometime this year for sure.

Lol, that was the idea. I forgot to mention the life-sized cardboard cutout of James Cameron saying "I'm the king of the world!" at the Oscars that is in my room, but I figured that was a little creepy.

haha, it's good to know at least some Avatar lovers can have relax and poke fun at themselves! too many Avatar die-hards turn into psychotic angry "you MUST OBEY THAT CAMERON IS KING!" clones
it gets ridiculous!

and you MUST put Fight Club on your list of films to watch soon.
of course, i have to say that, seeing as it's my favorite film

My One and Done list....DOES NOT have a new addition

I really enjoyed this movie, it was great.

It has a run time of just over two hours, but seemed longer than that (in a good way). The pacing of the movie was very nice and I did not think it drug at any points, nor did it ever feel rushed to me. It didn't hook me from the very beginning, but when
[Show spoiler]his friend and the first mate started talking at that table about him and then he got arrested
I was glued to the screen until the movie was over.

I have not actually read the book (though I have been meaning to, which I may get to sooner having now watched the movie), but I know there was a good bit of changes in the film from the book, but the changes added up to a great movie.

The acting as a whole was good, James Caviezel as Dantès was really the only stand out one to me, but the rest of the cast did quite well with their roles I thought.

I was really invested in the character of Dantès, I wanted to know what happened next for him. Would the movie have a happy ending for him? Would it have a bad ending for him? Would it have one that had a little of both?

I loved that he
[Show spoiler]didn't go out and just kill his betrayers like his buddy recommended, but rather weaved his intricate web of vengeance until he had everyone where he wanted them
.

Also, the old man was awesome

I'm a sucker for vengeance/justice seeking/redemption movies most of the time.

There wasn't really anything I didn't like about it, but giving a 5/5 just seems a little too high for some reason. I highly enjoyed it, but just not quite that much. So...

Like Squid, if it gets a blu-ray release and is at a good price, I would definitely pick it up.

I know Czar and others hate Cloverfield, which is cool, but I really enjoyed it. The concept and execution worked for me. The central part of the film that you debated over didn't bother me bc it wasn't handled in a heavy handed way. It was there and it was probably somewhat necessary to establish the characters. Hud was funny at times and other times, as you point out, it seemed too forced. I gave the film 3 or 3 1/2 (out of 4).

You wont find ANYWHERE in this thread where I tried to change someones opinion. I voiced mine, and thats all.

So your post is kinda funny, and moot.
