Well you can always look at RT user votes and see if the majority of people like it on there, and IMDB see all the user votes in there, it's not 100% (I'd say more 60%) but it's a little indicator.

Its a great adventure story. I'd buy it on Blu if it were available and if the price were right.

Czar can take his lumps if you hate it, but I doubt that will happen.

Of people willing to take the time to vote, you are correct.

How many people left the theater disappointed, like me? One quarter, one third, one half, nine tenths? You have no way of nowing. Dont claim your speculation to be fact.

You have no evidence other than your personal opinion of the film.
The numbers say it all buddy, box office and package media

The only thing that can be measured, is how many people saw it.

Lots of people didnt see it in the theater, then bought it on Blu-ray and DVD. We dont know how many of them liked it after watching it at home.
Its really funny (for 1000 reasons) that people try to convince themselves and others that avatar wasnt a very good movie. as Avatar was the most sucsessfull movie (based on the worldwide gross).

People can justfy anythink, but after some line their justifications are so unrelevant that its becoming funny.

I, for one reason, absolutely hated LOTR trilogy and Pirates of the Carribean Trilogy, but never insisted on my point that they are bad movies as I felt uncreditworthy to do that as I understood that they were sucsessfull movies, (maybe smth is wrong with me, and I dont need to change all the people to accommodate my tastes) thus, justified.

1.Unoriginal is one thing, but when its a remake, at least call it a remake.

2.I thought the CGI was weak, especially the much touted "facial gesture" capture methods.

3. I thought the flight scenes in How to Train Your Dragon were rendered in a far more realistic fashion.

4. I think the floating planets in Dragon Hunters were prettier and had a more realistic "floating" appearance.

5. The Navi's tail movements were reminiscent of The Cowardly Lions "string activated" tail.

6. The dialog was awful.

7. Many of the actors did poor jobs. (tough job though with such a bad script)

8. The score was manipulative and prematurely bombastic.

9. I thought the "camera work" to capture the actions scenes was poor and the editing added to the loss of connection as well.

10. I honestly believe, that for 10 years in the making, it fell far far short. A story thats been told "EXACTLY" the same before and CGI that falls far short of Pixar, Futurikon, LuxAnimation, Mac Guff Ligne Paris and Trixter.

Lets get back on topic.
perfectly stated!!

The difference between you and me is I wouldn't even ask you for those 5 reasons, because it wouldn't matter to me.

Does Avatar suck? No. Are people allowed to think it does? Sure, and I don't care. Now can we move on?

In your opinion, sure. You gave Braveheart a perfect 10 though, so it's all good.

I think if the BD of Avatar came with a quarter ounce of magic mushrooms, i'd probably buy it. Heck, i might even watch the movie again. I'm not sure i'd even like this steaming turd while tripping.

Two Lovers (netflix streaming)

Film: 2 1/2 stars (out of 4)

Rottentomatoes: 83%

Ebert: 3 1/2 stars

Nominated for the Palme d'Or at Cannes.

I'm not sure how this film got as much acclaim as it did. Phoenix is fantastic in his role; the subtleties of his performance are what make it so good. While the film is very vague and not much is revealed, what's below the service cannot save this film from its script. The script is cliche-filled, the dialogue is weak, and the ending is stupid and unrealistic (no matter what the critics say, this wouldn't happen). There is a sense of greater complexity here, but the writing really drags the film down. Not to mention, Leonard (Phoenix) is just creepy. That being said, Leonard is a character that will stick with you for a bit.

Recommended, if only to see Phoenix in what may be his last performance.

The Count of Monte Cristo (2002)

My One and Done list....DOES NOT have a new addition

I really enjoyed this movie, it was great.

It has a run time of just over two hours, but seemed longer than that (in a good way). The pacing of the movie was very nice and I did not think it drug at any points, nor did it ever feel rushed to me. It didn't hook me from the very beginning, but when
[Show spoiler]his friend and the first mate started talking at that table about him and then he got arrested
I was glued to the screen until the movie was over.

I have not actually read the book (though I have been meaning to, which I may get to sooner having now watched the movie), but I know there was a good bit of changes in the film from the book, but the changes added up to a great movie.

The acting as a whole was good, James Caviezel as Dantès was really the only stand out one to me, but the rest of the cast did quite well with their roles I thought.

I was really invested in the character of Dantès, I wanted to know what happened next for him. Would the movie have a happy ending for him? Would it have a bad ending for him? Would it have one that had a little of both?

I loved that he
[Show spoiler]didn't go out and just kill his betrayers like his buddy recommended, but rather weaved his intricate web of vengeance until he had everyone where he wanted them
.

Also, the old man was awesome

I'm a sucker for vengeance/justice seeking/redemption movies most of the time.

There wasn't really anything I didn't like about it, but giving a 5/5 just seems a little too high for some reason. I highly enjoyed it, but just not quite that much. So...

Rating - 4.75/5

Like Squid, if it gets a blu-ray release and is at a good price, I would definitely pick it up.
