This is just my thought if Scream 5 does happen with the original cast...some of them have to die at this point. How many times can a killer come after all of these people and NOT kill one of them, but yet kill everyone around them. It would just become ridiculous at this point!!! I honestly thought one of the main 3 should have died in 4. If one of them does not die this time around I am convinced that they are all involved somehow

I had always wished that Sidney would’ve taken up the killing after having gone through all she has within the films...someone’s gotta have a mental breakdown lol...or Dewey even...I think one of the originals should be made out to be the killer at this rate

If they start production this year, then it could be released sometime next year. Horror movies don't take too long to make.

I'm all on board for this, especially if they bring back the original cast.

Ew, Ready or Not was so stupid I couldn't even finish it. But the idea was idiotic, direction was ok. If Williamson is writing this there's still a chance.

Anyway, the original Scream is the only one I really like. I don't find any of the sequels bad, they're entertaining, just nothing special.

Thank you! For all the praise that film received it made me feel like I was the only person who didn't like it lol

I know, but I'm like that with a lot of recent movies. Seems people are easier to please these days.

Ironically I kind of felt that way until the ending. It turned me around about how I felt with the film. I kind of gave up on it then happened to wander back toward the end and had a sort of WTF moment when I did where I decided I loved the movie.

Part of what made the 'Scream' movies clever was their ability to riff and comment on genre clichés and play with genre tropes while still delivering them.

'Scream' played with slasher movie clichés.
'Scream 2' played with slasher sequel clichés.
'Scream 4' played with slasher movie reboot and found footage movie clichés.

Part of what makes 'Scream 3' the weakest is that the satirical thrust becomes detached from the genre. They just don't have any material to play with. They try to touch on the tropes of concluding chapters in trilogies, but even they admit that those are rare in the horror genre. 'Scream 3' mostly riffs on the sleaziness of showbiz, but that's way broader than just horror movies.

I foresee 'Scream 5' having the same problem. What commentary can they make on the state of horror films right now? Other than to say we're in a second golden age for the genre. It's one of the few genres where originality actually gets rewarded now. There aren't really any clichés or trends that unite 'The Witch', 'Midsommar', 'Get Out', 'It Follows' etc.

First thing that comes to mind, the retcon (ala Blumhouse's Halloween), where you alter the events that set the franchise in one path, only to recalibrate it and set it into another. Start the story with something altering the events as we the audience remember them and it setting the franchise off in a fresh new direction.

Maybe erase the continuity after the first film, bring Jamie Kennedy back but have Sidney remember the second, third and fourth film happening and his character dying.

Also the sensitivity of modern times, as you can't make a movie that shows women getting killed or mistreated unless there's a social comment/agenda behind it ala the newest Black Christmas.

Which I don't understand. Men get killed on film in the awfulest of ways, and no one bats an eye... but suddenly women are hands off with murder and mayhem? We've even had kids get added to body counts. Women, can't live with em, can't kill em. Gotcha.
