I really wish they had released a boxset focusing solely on Ray's 50s sci-fi efforts...20 Million Miles to Earth, It Came from Beneath the Sea, Earth vs. the Flying Saucers and The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms.
While all entertaining in their own ways, I view them as primers for the "real stuff" that began with The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. I don't feel passionately enough about them to buy them individually or even as twofers, but a compact set would be ideal. Last edited by SeanJoyce; 02-03-2017 at 06:26 AM. |

I have Sinbad, it's great. I'm just not a fan of 50's monster stuff or sci-fi. I have seen all his movies from around then I think, or at least most. Just have no desire to own them. I'm glad those great Sony discs exist for you guys though.

Sony has done an amazing job with their Harryhausen bds (whether releasing them or providing scans to Twilight Time). I still would like them to revisit The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. I think the video could be improved. The Bernard Herrmann score and fx audio is already fantastic.

They're a new Criterion style label and all their Sony discs are region-free. They include glossy booklets in thick cases with clean poster art on the cover. Their releases of Body Double and Christine are amazing. Great encodes for better compression. Rumor is they're doing a Sinbad trilogy set and a standalone release of First Men in the Moon. Definitely something I am keeping my eye on despite owning them all already.

I think it was attached to some double bill release but I don't know what the other movie was. What a shame to bury a great Harryhausen film behind some turd of a movie.

Can't believe I'm triple dipping on these but the 4k scan of The 7th Voyage of Sinbad alone makes this set worth every penny. It's already dropped £10. One thing I'm wondering about is the isolated scores. I'm guessing they'll use the ones provided to TT and the Aussie Via Visions release by Sony. I wonder if there will be a brand new one for 7th Voyage? That will be killer!
