I love The Lost World. It's not perfect, but it has some great sequences and I love the darker tone. The one scene I really, REALLY do not like is the gymnastics bit. Yikes.

Even though Jurassic Park is my all time favorite movie, the I prefer the score for the Lost World over the first. The theme has been my ringtone for 15 years or so.

Depends on which you're talking about, Steelbook or Standard?

Cause it's 100% not going to, Either way

I think they're both brilliant scores, Williams wrote the score that each film asked of him.

Wow. Seeing all of this love for The Lost World has really done my heart good. Even four years ago when the 25th anniversary set was first announced, this thread inevitably turned to slagging the second film. Glad to see it's more people than just MechaGodzilla and myself defending it for once. It's my favorite film of all-time, flaws or not, and I get tired of being one of the only ones with anything nice to say.

P.S. I still think that TLW is highly comparable to Temple of Doom.

There's a lot I do like about TLW, but there's still plenty of flaws that are hard to overlook. But overall, for a movie Spielberg didn't want to make, based off a book Crichton didn't want to write, it turned out okay.

I really like TLW (it's awesome fun) but I wouldn't rank it in the leages of Temple of Doom which I consider to be one of the greatest films ever made (alongside Raiders and The Last Crusade).

I was speaking more in terms of their place in their respective franchises and how they were initially received as darker followups to instant classics. My little spiel from four years ago:

Rex rampage). Both are also directed by Steven Spielberg and feature music by John Williams.
"Quality" or lack thereof isn't really a part of the equation for me when discussing the two films. But I will say, even though I like it, Temple is my least favorite of the four Indy films. The last 30+ minutes (right after Indy wakes up from Mola Ram's spell) is better than ANYTHING in Crystal Skull, but I find the majority of the film leading to the finale to be a slog. As someone said about JP3 in comparison to TLW, I think that Crystal Skull lacks the highs and lows of Temple, but it makes up for it in consistency. At least in my opinion (and yes, I'm including the monkeys and the fridge and other dunderheaded creative decisions in that consideration).

EDIT: Also, the original idea for Temple of Doom was for Indy to find living dinosaurs in a hidden valley, a la Gwangi.

Interesting, that's kind of true, it's sort of a reverse Temple in my opinion, where the first half is much stronger than the second half. Wheras (IMO) Temple has a fairly weak start but has probably the best 3rd act of any of the Indy movies.

JP 4k has no listing on Target. I'm guessing it sold out. Target is the 2nd worst place to order from online, right behind Walmart (which I don't even shop with). Guess it's either Amazon or going to just stick with my BB Steel set.

It's always weird seeing slander for The Lost World. Only real issue I had with it was the weird ass retcon of explaining their process of getting the dinosaurs onto Nublar. In the first movie they hatched on the island, but according to Hammond they actually hatch on Sorna and then get transported to Nublar, what??

And other minor gripes but otherwise I really do like Lost World.

Honestly those individual releases are tempting with the (mostly) OG artwork, but I think I'm good with my Jurassic World 5-film 4K steelbook. Would love a proper restoration of the first film, though. Jurassic Park, along with Jaws and Schindler's List are probably my three most-watched Spielberg films. 1993 really was an amazing year for Señor Spielbergo.

When me and my partner first met, he had never seen Jurassic Park, and I made him watch it on our 2nd date. LOL. He's also never seen E.T., and I haven't been able to convince him to watch that one yet. Somehow we're still together 6 years later.

I think they get hatched maybe in the lab and raised on Nublar until sent to Sorna when they’ve grown to be part of the park. I dunno I’m just guessing, but maybe that opening scene in JP is a raptor being transported from Nublar.

I like The Lost World, it’s probably still my second-favorite in the series, though quite a ways down from the first. I’d probably rank it as one of Spielbergs weaker films, but that says more about how good his films typically are than anything else.

I always figured the main bulk of the work was done on Sorna, but they still bred dinosaurs on Nublar as well. Once they've got everything set up on Nublar, it doesn't make sense to restrict themselves to Sorna alone, when the whole idea is to keep dinosaurs on both islands.

Another explanation could be that the lab with the eggs and all is mainly there for show, part of the tour. Evidently, they didn't intend on informing guests about Sorna, so they gotta have something to show them when they wonder about where the dinosaurs are bred.

The real life reason is of course that, yes, it is a retcon. Nublar is destroyed at the end of the novel, so when writing the sequel Crichton came up with Sorna as an excuse to still be able to have an island with dinosaurs on it. And then Spielberg stuck with that idea for his adaptation.

The raptor in the opening scene is being transported from its original enclosure on Nublar to the raptor pen. The pen is of course the small, reinforced cage where the raptors are kept in the film. However, they were originally kept in a paddock, similar to all the other dinosaurs in the park. They are moved to the pen for security reasons.

Remember the part where Grant and the kids stumble upon a raptor nest later in the film? That's in the raptor paddock, where we can see the raptors reproduced - unbeknownst to Hammond and his employees - before being moved to the pen.

Default I’ve grown to love The Lost World more and more

with each viewing. While it won’t match the first film ever, it really is quite entertaining on its own and Jeff Goldblum is always awesome to watch, I think having Ian Malcolm back really sold it for me as I love his character so I was thrilled he was coming back.

And yes, the soundtrack for this and Jurassic Park are on my playlists all the time and some of my all time favorite John William scores.

Can’t say I ever disliked The Lost World.

Although after reading the book a few years ago, I’m absolutely baffled as to why they didn’t follow that for the movie.

Especially because they asked Crichton to write another book so they’d have something to adapt lol.
