You can't CQC with a two-handed weapon equipped. You need one or two free hands.

[Show spoiler]You want to deplete Vamp's health or stamina once, make sure you're standing near him when taking the last bit off. Equip the syringe and stand behind Vamp, when he stands up hold R1 to grab him (you must be still while holding R1 to grab instead of slamming-down) while grabbed with the syringe equipped press triangle to inject.

And when your trying to
[Show spoiler]wear vamp's health down, make sure you don't take him down to nothing when he is on top of some of the rubble or Rex. If he his, he'll regenerate his health without even giving you a chance to inject him.

What an awesome game! I finished it this weekend. It was the first MGS game I've played and I loved it.

I got really mad when
[Show spoiler]it looked like Snake killed himself at the cemetary during the epilogue. Quite a psych job.

I thought it was brilliant
[Show spoiler] to bring in the one piece of level from (I'm assuming) the first game. Were those 8 bit graphics? Yikes! How far we've come.

I did have a few minor quibbles with the game
[Show spoiler] like the button mash-fest going down the microwaved hallway in the last act
. They were so minor and the game so great that I think I would be hard pressed to give this anything but a 10/10. So that's what I did.

I gave the game a rating of 10 as well. One of the best games in years. The only minor problem that I had with the game was
[Show spoiler] the length of some of the cutscenes, namely the one that ended Act III, which must have been over an hour long. It was a very good cutscene, but maybe putting some interactive elements into it might have helped.

With that said, I only had the one or two very minor problems with the game, and I'm really hoping that there is some sort of follow-up to it.

[Show spoiler] I think maybe in the electric shocks they could have put in a button pressing torture thing, like in MGS1 and 2

I really wish they had used the motion sensor for when you're grabbed by an enemy and stunned. Throwing around the left analog stick has its annoyances and sometimes feels like you're damaging the controller.

Also-- Anyone have a list of ranks you can attain and how? Such as what is being discussed in the Metal Gear Solid 4 Emblem thread?

i made a list of em from the beta a while back in this thread. ill search around for it

EDIT: found it on the first page i checked

Rat - fall into traps
Sloth - prone to headshots
Snake - prefers sneak rules
Shark - knife master
Crocodile - high kill count
Turtle - spends a lot of time in a box
Pigeon - prefers not to kill
Owl - often wears ENVG
Flying Squirrel - rolls a lot
Eagle - headshot master
Bee - scanning master
Kerotan - prefers capture rules
Tarantula - often kills teammates

they all go off a certain ratio but im not sure on them at all. right now im a snake, crocodile, and eagle. should be getting the shark soon since ive been using the knife for a while.

Gotcha. Thanks alot!

By Snake and Kerotan "prefering" those rules... I assume that means you play alot of sneaking/capture games??

Well I got sloth once, but it was only on for a day. It happened early on so I must have really sucked for a while there.
I don't have any that are showing up now though.
On the other hand, I just killed 2 guys with the knife AT THE SAME TIME/BLOW last night. It was awesome.

Well...I finished it first time through last night. Well I guess you could say this morning @ about 3am lol. Whew last cut scene was soooo long. BB was killing me lol.

[Show spoiler]It took me over 20 hours. Of course with all the cut scenes. The game was a ***** to get ahold of. It took me over 4 hours just to get past Act1. That's because I was a COD4 freak...controls came so natural to me. MGS4's controls were just a *****.

Once all the briefing, cut scenes etc. in Act 1 were complete. I was on my own. I thought it all took place ONLY in the middle east. Nice to have a plane to fly you all over with lol. I live in Pa and there's farms around. It's rare but occasionally a cow wanders into your yard. I started hearing mooing and was like wtf is going on. Then I figured it out! Probably Hideo's worst flaw of the game. He couldn't have come up with something better?

Longest Boss battle was Crying Wolf....she took forever to get into my view.
Mantis was a ***** but I had no idea I had to use the syringe. Then I had control and with a few flicks of the wrist, literally she's gone.

Act 4 was my favorite....just magnificent how Hideo made it look old but it still had that vibe.

I was glad you could pause during the cut scenes. The last ones were overly wrong. You want to hit the X but it's so hard. 2nd time around...by all means.

COD4 was game of the year. MGS4 will be game of the year. Story was long. if you didn't play the others; it may have been difficult to understand. At least go on youtube and check out the full games. I watched MGS2 because it's been so long since I played it. Really helped me out because Sometimes...you are lost. MGS1 is classic and you can't forget that game. I was fortunate to get the gamecube version of twin snakes...so I'm good 2 go! They're like $80 on ebay now lol.

Conclusion: Great game....replay value? Sure, but it's going to be a ***** to go in there with no kills and alerts. Especially since I have an itchy trigger finger. 10/10. I'd love another one but I doubt it. As far as the last scene, it didn't have the "Return of the Jedi" felling. I would have rather had all the characters together. The game had great humor. "Snake you need to pop in disk 2...of wait nevermind it's a bluray" haha. Mantis...."where's your memory card?" Good times. I still know a lot of people who haven't made the ps3 jump yet. Right now I'm sure they're hitting their heads.

On a side note: I bought a Wii when Twilight Princess came out. I played it for a few days. Still love Ocarina of Time and often replay it. It didn't have the feel of that game. Long story short: Got a PS3 for my b-day...only a week after I picked up the Wii. COD4 obliterated the Wii. It hasn't been turned on in months. Well, except when I was playing Twin Snakes. I guess it's time to finally beat TP. It's been too long. But Playstation has such a better format and games. It's so hard to not playing anything but the PS3. I didn't even bother with Xbox.

Also, how is the MGS online? I heard it's not as great as COD4. Are the rumors true? And is there a level with SM? lol That would be awesome.
