What's so difficult to understand about them using a future version of nuKirk? I'd love to see it happen.

Roberto Orci and William Shatner address Kirk/Spock Star Trek 3 rumor

To clarify whether this news was legitimate or more Internet fodder, both STAR TREK 3 writer/director Roberto Orci and William Shatner himself have made comments. First up, Orci refused to confirm or deny the rumor to Trek Movie, but did say this.

"Not in my interest to confirm or deny anything because it limits my options while maintaining my integrity as a truth teller. The movie is not the movie till it is in the theater. Until then, everything is a rumor."

Shatner was a little less informative but still very direct in his Twitter feed.

"Let's talk ST. I don't know anything about the current gossip. Nobody has contacted me. Right now it's just rhetoric to cause hype."
So now Orci is the Truth Teller and his integrity must not be tarnished. I guess he's hoping we've forgotten the whole "Cumberbatch is not Khan" thing.

Jesus, Orci's such a douche. How's that for "truth telling"?

Not taking sides here but I can sort of understand his angle. It must be so frustrating for filmmakers to try and wow their audience when people are trying to steal every single detail of the film along the way. Who is that desperate for such scraps of info which were never going to reflect the finished product? Can't they just let the filmmakers do their job and release information they themselves want to release along the way? I dunno why that isn't okay.

It's not so much the movie "truth" that bothers me (I knew it was gonna be Khan in STID) but it's Orci's personal outlook that pisses me off, he's a 9/11 conspiracy nut so when he says something as utterly pretentious as "maintaining my integrity as a truth teller" you know what he's also referring to, like he's some sort of wise old sage. The guy's a grade A jackass.

William Shatner Confirms ‘Star Trek 3′ Offer

Just days after word spread last week that Roberto Orci wanted William Shatner for Star Trek 3, the actor took to Twitter to deny, deny, deny. But now, just days after that, Shatner has changed his tune completely.

During an appearance at Wizard World Nashville Comic Con this weekend, Shatner admitted that he’d gotten the call from J.J. Abrams about Star Trek 3 — and also that he’d promised Abrams he wouldn’t tell anyone, not even his wife. Well, so much for that mystery box.

As reported by ComicBook.com, Shatner told the Wizard World Nashville crowd that while he was in Australia a few weeks ago, he’d received a call from Abrams in London. According to Shatner, Abrams said, “I’m calling because the director of Star Trek, the next movie, has had an idea where you might be involved, so I’m calling to find out whether you would be interested.”

Shatner told Abrams, “It depends on what you do with the character, but I would be delighted.” He then promised Abrams he’d stay quiet… but things didn’t go quite as planned.

Quote:
[I told Abrams,] ‘I won’t even tell my wife. I won’t tell anyone. I wouldn’t do that, JJ.’ I get back from Australia and it’s all over the Internet, that the director held an interview and said they wanted Shatner and Nimoy to be in the next movie. I thought, I bet you JJ’ss frothing at the mouth at this point. So the news is out that they have an idea that they want Leonard and myself. They might want Leonard and myself. I don’t know what to do with it. How do you get me fifty years later into the movie [...] I know it’s science fiction, but even I couldn’t come up with an idea.
To be fair to Shatner, he did try to keep the potential cameo under wraps. Last week, he tweeted: “I don’t know anything about the current gossip. Nobody has contacted me. Right now it’s just rhetoric to cause hype.” But now that the cat is out of the bag, it seems he sees no point in continuing to lie about it.

I kind of get the feeling that Nimoy will finally put his foot down with this film and say no more Spock. He has retired and even with Fringe he only did voice work for his last role. I just don't see him doing it anymore. He even stopped doing conventions.

I think the two JJ Abrams films are garbage but just move on already. Let the new cast do their thing without trying to shoehorn the original actors into it. Even come up with a new villian, it is Star Trek for friggin's sake, use the Klingons as the bad guys this go round. We don't need stunt casting of Christian Bale as Mudd.

His scene better appear late in the film. Imagine trying to watch Chris Pine play Kirk after the real deal shows up.

Except in JJs ST things are really messed up. He has the crew going to the academy together when in the original they never met in the Academy. Kirk Spock and Scotty were already serving on starships when Chekov and Uhura entered the academy.

And at that time the Federation had yet to make contact with the Cardasians or the Ferengi. But they are mentioned in the 09 movie.

Oh and as for 9/11 conspiracy nut. I guess you can count me as one because theres some things to me that seem a little "suspicious". But I know thats not the topic to have here.

Rumored Details on William Shatner’s ‘Star Trek 3′ Cameo Revealed, Plus: Leonard Nimoy Responds

After some initial denials, William Shatner confirmed last week he’d been contacted about Star Trek 3. So now the question is what exactly he’ll be doing in the movie, and a new report claims to have some of the juicy details.

Meanwhile, Leonard Nimoy, who’s rumored to appear alongside Shatner in the next film, has finally issued a response. Or maybe we should cal it a non-response, since it neither confirms nor denies anything.

Hit the jump to for William Shatner Star Trek 3 cameo details.

Badass Digest was the one who originally got the scoop about Shatner’s likely cameo in Star Trek 3, and they’re the ones who are coming back now with more details. Here’s what they have to say:

Quote:
My sources are now telling me that not only will Shatner be in the movie, his scene will have him meeting Chris Pine. Also in that scene: Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy. But if my sources are steering me correct this won’t be original timeline Spock – it’ll be future alt-timeline Kirk and Spock. Basically the scene will have Kirk and Spock interacting with their future selves.
If true, that means Nimoy will be playing a slightly different character this time around. He previously appeared in J.J. Abrams‘ Star Trek films as Spock Prime, but now it sounds like he and Shatner will both be playing alternate universe versions of themselves.

That is, if Nimoy returns. The actor appeared via Skype at Destination Star Trek 3 and addressed the rumors. “I haven’t seen a script and nothing has been confirmed but I would happy to be involved again,” he told the crowd (via TrekMovie).

For that matter, it’s worth pointing out that Shatner isn’t locked in yet either. He’s said only that he’s been contacted, not that he’s finalized a deal. Shatner did send out a tweet the other day that got fans buzzing — “I’m baaaaccckk!!!” — but later clarified he was only talking about returning home.

I don't think it's out of the realm of possibilities that Star Trek 3 could be some sort of spin on the classic episode "Mirror, Mirror" which had the crew meet evil versions of themselves from a parallel universe. In this case, it could be that they meet their evil counterparts from an alternate future timeline, thus enabling Shatner and Nimoy to play older Kirk and Spock as the villains.

I would be cool with this just to see old Spock with a goatee.

Or the writers could try to come up with something new and unique. Come on Hollywood, you can do it. I believe in you.

as much as I love the recent X-men film hope the new movie isn't something like Star Trek: Days of Future Past.

Yes I too would gun for something original.
