Default Until Dawn

There's not been much activity in the PS3 forum for this game, not surprising since it's been dark for almost 2 years. So I decided with the teaser Sony has dropped that this game should get bumped up to the PS4 section since it's pretty likely the game will be announced for PS4 at Gamescom next week.

So here's 7 things to know about Until Dawn courtesy of PSU

1. Until Dawn is a horror adventure game under development by Supermassive Games whose previous titles include Killzone HD and LittleBigPlanet PS Vita.

2. It’s been described as a teen horror experience and Supermassive has hired Hollywood writers Larry Fessenden and Graham Reznick to create a script inspired by classic movies of the genre such as I Know What You Did Last Summer.

3. The storyline follows a group of teens who stay overnight in a log cabin. One-by-one they get picked off and murdered by a mysterious serial killer. We’re promised twists and shocks along the way, though the script will also feature humour inspired by movies such as Scream.

4. To create an immersive experience, Until Dawn will not have a HUD or onscreen buttons to hamper the scares and will play out from the first-person perspective.

5. It will take advantage of PlayStation Move which players will use as a flashlight to navigate the environment. It’s currently unconfirmed whether players will be restricted to using Sony’s peripheral to play the game, or whether DualShock functionality will be available.

6. The storyline will change based on decisions made and players will get the opportunity to play as seven different characters. If you die, you won’t respawn, you’ll simply step into the shoes of the next potential victim.

7. There’s strong rumours that Until Dawn could utilise Project Morpheus, Sony Computer Entertainment’s virtual headset. Can you imagine how scary that could be?

Here's the initial annoucement trailer, which showcases some of the characters including the terryfying-looking serial killer.

And the teaser released last week

Box art that was released last April, which would suggest that it was playable with a DS3 (the Move sticker says Move Compatible and where as Move Exclusive games say Move Required.)

They said it was completely redone for the PS4, with a brand new story to boot.

Now it looks like you will have some key story decisions to make (ala Heavy Rain) that will determine who of the 8 characters (if any) will survive.

Looking forward to it.

According to Supermassive's website, Until Dawn uses a modified version of Killzone: Shadow Fall's engine...

Quote:
Using the power of the PlayStation®4 and the superior rendering capability of the Killzone™ Shadowfall Engine, together with our own major enhancements in lighting, camera, and animation systems, Until Dawn brings emotional and credible performances of a talented Hollywood cast to life in its realistically terrifying environments.

I know you control the flashlight and obviously make the quicktime decisions, but how much do you actually control the characters movements like a traditional game? I get scared to death when actively playing any game with exploring dark places, but I'm good when I passively watch others so I'm hoping Until Dawn is somewhere in the middle because I love the story and how cinematic it looks

You do all the moving of the characters. It plays pretty much exactly like a telltale game, or heavy rain.

I was watching some of the gameplay on YouTube, and apparently there are varying levels of
[Show spoiler]nakedness you can get from Jessica in the guest cabin. I saw one version where she takes her jacket off and another where she gets down to her bra and panties. Of course, she remained fully clothed for me. lol

Absolutely loved this game, just finished it last night. First playthrough ended up with Chris, Jessica, Emily, Josh and Mike dying, so only 3 survivors.

I'm gonna try again and get everyone through / killed.

My first play-through I only saved Sam & Matt.

It be cool if this game had skins DLC.

I'd like to get back to this & look at how to get the alternate endings but I'm probably gonna delete the game cuz of HDD space & come back to it another day.

Anyone else's PS4 get really noisy when playing this?

Anyway, another hour or two played and I have one other criticism with the game - you aren't given enough time to react. I appreciate it's supposed to mirror the real emotions but it sometimes feels like I've had all control taken from me as the game drops me into quick time events with dire consequences without any warning and no time to react. Even if they just made them a second or two longer, it won't effect the pacing in any dramatic way but will also give me time to press the damn button.

Anyway the game has really opened up but I don't really know how I feel about the twist, I feel like I've been trolled but I can't really work out if I mean that in a good way or not yet. I definitely know that I would never make half the choices I made once I play this again, everything truly is so different than I could have ever expected it to be.

I'm glad it's not just me but it is still a little worrying. Should we be concerned when this happens or is it just a sign that the PS4 is doing its job?
