Blu-ray Samurai

This is such an odd choice when usually everything has to be sharper and come with more "pop" than the film before. Maybe Davy Chou wanted to emulate a diffused look like many directors did in the 70s. |

And possibly will reduce sales - I'm another of those who waited months before picking up DTL, only for them to announce the UHD the following week. Makes me wary of picking up any other MUBI BDs.

I can’t imagine any of the other titles in their catalogue would be big enough or a visual spectacle to justify 4K - think one of the reasons would be the German/Italian 4Ks and maybe sales figures.
But yeah, I won’t upgrade every BD later upgraded to 4K. |

Unless I'm reading this wrong, it looks like they now own the homevideo rights for 11 of
Von Triers movies in America. What are the odds they will actually release them physically, as opposed to just on their streaming service: https://deadline.com/2023/05/mubi-ac...se-1235364411/ |

I was about to argue with you, as I saw it in the theater and don't recall it being sepia toned, but I did a search for reviews of the film that were published online in 2003/2004, and all the screen shots of the film were sepia toned. The Manderlay DVD was also very warm/yellow looking, so it's possible that the DVDs and Bluray were taken from the original digital videos and not processed like the film was (it's easy to forget now, but even though this film was digital, theaters would have shown it in 35mm, so Von Trier very likely would have processed the image when it was transferred to 35mm).

Anyone got Decision to Leave 4K yet? Are the subtitles better? (What was wrong with them? I found them too small and too much of a word salad.)

Fopp have a MUBI deal in store. The usual reductions to £8 with some more recent titles (Alcarras, The Five Devils, Holy Spider) included. All with slips as usual.

Yep, that’s why I’m blind buying it. Give me dark drama over romance any day.
