The Jurassic Park III 4k has always been a weird one. First time I saw it I thought it was a bd. Each time I've seen it since it gets better. Still not great but I still don't know what to make of it...except it needs a new scan along the likes of TLW:JP...which looks impressive.

All it needs is brightening and a fresh colour correction to match with the 35mm projection. There's plenty of fine grain there. It has not been scrubbed clean. The worst UHD is Jurassic Park 1. The colours, the framing, the DNR, everything is bad about that one.

I'm not analyzing JP movies for realism, don't misunderstand. It's about tone and style. As time has gone on and I analyze why I dislike X and like Y I have discovered I have a deep dislike for action I would call "cartoonish," for lack of a better word.

I remember Geoff and I once having a discussion about Indiana Jones 4 and that moment when Marion is holding the detached car steering wheel and laughing after the crash. One of us commented that it felt like an old Hannah Barbera cartoon, Whacky Races, and that conversation stuck with me as a great summation of my issues with many movies.

Anyway... that scene is very whacky, especially the cheeseburger line and the cartoony way the trailer plummets and misses all of them somehow, among other aspects.

The high grass scene in contrast is very moody and tense without that kind of thing.

The cheeseburger lines at the end are rather glib, almost Marvel-esque, and the way the tyre comes up from the explosion is like something from a Road Runner cartoon, but the main bit of the sequence is pure Spielberg magic. That and the double Rexy attack are literally the only reasons I watch the movie. Well, them and Pete Postlethwaite.
