so i came across a comment on reddit the other day (/week) saying how the cover to one of the star wars legends EU reprints looked like it was done by AI (as in, terribly bad), wasn't sure if they were joking at the time but seeing the art on this JP cover properly in the most recent post of it for the US one, i'm genuinely thinking surely this could plausibly be AI generated? it doesn't have that creepy uncanny vibe some of the AI that tries to be photorealistic has, but this isn't trying to be photorealistic clearly, its supposed to be a movie-poster style painting but this is so terribly bad i cannot fathom that someone was paid to make this in the usual way, either as a commission or in house at their computer as part of their day job, except in the latter case if it was simply created from prompts in an AI programme and nothing else

Spared no expense! Or indeed any expense, judging by that horror show of a cover. They're all terrible - apart from Sam Jackson for some reason - but Ariana Richards comes off so much worse than any of the others. Wow.

so i saw this yesterday, tried to pay attention to colours etc. where i could but mostly let myself get lost in enjoying the film. it was definitely on the yellow side in certain instances that i did notice, like the landscape in the stampede scene and when ellie and the 'you clever girl' hunter are moving crouched in front of the raptor cage when trying to get to the bunker. there are caps of these scenes on caps a holic i checked last night and the yellow-lean in the film is absolutely nothing like that on the UHD captures though (which is so extreme in comparison you could say its a brown tint to the grading smh!). there were other scenes (yellow lean or otherwise) i did notice the colours on too but can't remember them now.

it was an old print so not the best condition/presentation, the place that shows it kind of markets itself as almost a fleapit of sorts showing, all these old films so not unexpected (some of the other 35mm screenings i've seen has been similar, but JP was the worst except for a really degraded fantasia which had a red hue all over it for its entire duration), so there were bits that had green lines running down the frame, lots of scratches in places etc. which again, not unexpected, but what did surprise me is how fuzzy/out of focus it was in some shots. Is this part of/an effect of film degrading over time? i wouldn't have thought so but i don't know anything really. the screen isn't big so its not that it was being blown up too large or something. in most shots it was fine though and nice and clear and sharp. i would be really interested to see a 4K DCP screening now if i ever got the opportunity to for comparison.
